Hey wws

My friend has a trek domane and is running wide rims and tires. He clears the frame but not the calipers which are Duraace 9000 single bolt.

We did try an R8000 caliper but the difference wasn't great.

Shimano road calipers have these annoying pivot points that bulge into the tire space. The rest of the space is plenty. It's simply those damn pivot points.

The rider has otherwise a nice bike and it's full dura-ace so the idea is to not deteriorate the braking performance or aesthetics too much with other calipers. What would work well with shimano brake levers but provide the extra clearance?

What size are we talking about for the tyres (measured rather than labeled size)?

Oh, darn it. I forgot to specify that. Excuse me.

They're 34mm thereabout. They're 32C contis on a 30mm wide rim.

I believe that brake calipers without those pivot points would work (as long as they're 30mm rim compatible), but which are good with shimano levers? Hmm...

Tririg Omega One aero brake. It clear 34mm tires.

Eebrakes reportedly have great tyre clearance.

34mm is pushing it on short reach brakes really unless they have longer than typical drop and the mounting bolt on the fork is fairly. At which point you may anyway need to start looking at medium reach brakes - and they could end up too long.

However, not sure its style would fit your frame though. IMO, aero brake looks at home on aero bike but riddiculous on thin climbing bike.

IIRC 9100 has more clearance then 9000. Also Ultegra 6700 calipers have tons of space, way more than subsequent models. I can fit 32mm with them but doubt 34mm would fit. Can't speak for EE center mount but my EE direct mount are as good as you can hope for without going to long reach brakes.

Sram calipers seem to be of the design without those pivot points.

Eebrakes have them.

TRP seems interesting.

I don't believe a 6700 caliper will support 30mm wide rims like the 9000 can. Has anyone tried?

So if the choice is between TRP or Sram, what would work best with shimano levers?
