i also had a go at this really clean gopro mount, replacing the front screws: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/rit ... =sku701570

But going descents, just couldn't relax, maybe i was overthinking it?

I've seen little parts like these snap under much less load then stem bolts must be under.

But that's again bolt abuse, even if it at least comes with the gopro fork as an overload relief. The perfect solution would be a Gopro fork on the faceplate, or perhaps an adapter that attaches to all four bolts. Then all leverage concerns are completely gone. The additional stress per bolt wouldn't be half of two-bolt solutions but more like a twentieth of two-bolt because the base is so much bigger: ten centimeters of Garmin sitting on a base five millimeters wide is like a crowbar, extend the base to thirty millimeters and its nothing)

but each part would still be under the stress of the 5nm stem bolt right?

My concern would be one of the fixing snapping if you hit a pothole or something rather than the faceplate snapping, or was that what you meant?

Ultimately, why doesnt' every high-end stem manufacturer just bundle these few dollars of plastic as part of their stem, or at least provide fixing points on their stem faceplate separate to the very important bolts? Problem solved reliably and safely for everyone.
I've been wondering the same thing. For a stem manufacturer it would be pretty trivial to design the face plate to easily allow attaching a mount in a way that doesn't interfere with the clamping of the handlebar. And at the volumes of some of the stem manufacturers, they could get plastic mounts injection molded for next to nothing.

I'm not always wild of their stems (and they are overpriced) but Trek/Bontrager's Blendr system is pretty slick. I have one bike with a Blendr Garmin/light mount and it's lighweight and streamlined.

Fixed angle mount angle totally depend on stem bolt angle, in addition to the stem angle itself.
----Meaning upper bolts point more up and lower bolts point more down.
I use, and quite pleased, with the OG Evkin posted previously. But it doesn't work in a Ritchey Classic stem precisely due to the reason you mention; 6° stem but with very far spread bolt angles. ¿Any recommendation there?
So, I had the same issue with the OG Evkin on a Giant SLR carbon stem with wide bolt spacing. The OG was about 1-2mm too narrow on each side, so I drilled out a little extra material in order to fit Giant stem bolts. There was enough remaining material at the margins that the stem bolt washers still completely contacted the OG mount.

The issues did not end there, however, as the Garmin quarter-turn adaptor supplied with the OG failed (both of them) within about 6 hours of riding. I wanted to use my Garmin Edge OEM-supplied quarter-turn mount in its place (which is far more robust), but the hole spacing on the OG for mounting the Garmin piece was again too narrow. Brought back Mr. Drill and all is working just fine now. I also learned to always leash my Garmin and have invested in a glass screen cover and silicone case as well.

I’ve had a Garmin tab snap off on a mild pothole (not quite that deep but enough to feel it). I actually think that the tab s under the Garmin unit were getting worn and the pothole bump forced the break. I’m getting my Karoo warranties since a car ran over it while I was looking for it with my headlight on (it was face down).

I’ll have to ride with a tether leash when I get the new one.

Making a decision on which computer mount to use took me a while, but I eventually settled on the out front mount by Fetha. It wasn't cheap (and I actually don't know if it's still available - the website doesn't list any products), but the elegant design, low weight, adjustability, reliability, and overall simplicity have made it one of my favorite bits of gear. I run this on multiple bikes, and have set up freinds and family with it too.

Shown here on my Tarmac SL5 with custom black Ti bolts, a K-Edge combo mount adaptor, and a (somewhat clunky) GoPro mount for a Specialized Flux light.

Easton stem looks like a decent setup. Total weight including mount is good. I just ordered one to try it out.

Did you switch to an aftermarket mount on the Easton?

How many watts is that computer condom and tether costing you though?
