Enve SES AR gravel tyre
Moderator: robbosmans
Hey all,
Anyone got a set of Enve AR? Want a set of tyres to use on these rims for gravel riding. Currently run Pro One on the road but after something more suited to the rough stuff. Enve have approved tyres for these rims so first hand knowledge would be great!
Cheers!

The problem with the 4.5 AR is the hookless BS. IMO, it's insane to not be able to run the tire of your choice safely. You can't even run the 3 fastest tubeless tires that exist per BRR, I own tons of stuff from Enve, but your choice of tire going to be a handful of so-so tires. Once you go over 32mm wide, Enve says all the aero benefit is lost. In order to run the tire of your choice, it needs to be over 32mm according to their compatilibity chart. I would get the HED Belgium Plus G which is 25mm internal width, pick your favorite hub, and it has hooks.
Recently went through this decision myself. It just doesn't make sense to spend that amout of money and be so limited with tires.

I have had these wheels (4.5) for a couple of years now and never really used them much, because I didn't like the tires on them and riding that low pressure for road. I have recently gotten more into gravel, and they work well with a gravel tire at low pressure.
However, if I could choose again, I would buy something lighter and cheaper for gravel (Specialized CLX Terra, 9th Wave Anath Ninefold). 300g lighter and over a grand cheaper.

They will fit 30mm going from cannondales website, I have however been told they will fit bigger. 28mm tyre would be best.

Here is a list of compatible tyres. I'm thinking the corsa controls are probably the pick for gravel in 30mm?
Thoughts?

My thoughts are that no-one who rides gravel uses anything as narrow as 30mm. 38mm is about the narrowest you'd use for anything that's beyond a little stretch of unsurfaced to connect up tarmac. Don't even *think* about mud.la85 wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 9:54 amhttps://www.enve.com/learn/tire-compatibility/

Assuming your frame has clearance I'd forget that stupid list and buy some proper gravel tyres. You're going to be running 40psi max so hookless is no bother.

Schwalbe G-One Speed 30c would fit the rim.

I just raced the Huffmaster Hopper (4th place in my age group) on measured 35mm Continental Terra Speeds and there were plenty of fast guys on 32mm tires. It has around 40mi of loose “moondust” gravel and 48mi of pavement. You run the narrowest tires you think you can get away with in races like these because splits happen on the paved roads too. One guy rode off the front, I was in a 2-man chase by mile 20...it was all initiated on pavement. I couldn’t stick with the other guy on the climb and eventually got caught/passed by one other who excelled at climbing. I’m glad I rode narrow tires because it ensured me 4th place...I finished 13min ahead of the next guy.
For something like the SoCal BWR, I’d probably use 30-32mm slicks.
What sort of pressures were you running?TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 6:17 amI just raced the Huffmaster Hopper (4th place in my age group) on measured 35mm Continental Terra Speeds and there were plenty of fast guys on 32mm tires. I don't have much gravel to ride on so I always have to heavily bias towards tarmac when it comes to tires and pressure - one of my favorites is a 32mm actual (Ritchey Alpine JB) that I'll put about 42f/52r into. That's around 85Kg all up.

47psi front, 50psi rear. I was probably at a system weight of ~75kg.
It makes everything feel sketchier, but it does make you faster at key moments in a race like that. My numbers at the end were 88.7mi/142km 4800ft/1460m, 4h43m, 3.3w/kg avg, 3.75w/kg NP, avg speed 18.7mph/30.1kph.
Nice job.. I plan on running those tires at BWR (wafer san diego). As its the wafer I think 50%+ is offroad and I'm just riding not really racing as I'm a poor climber.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 7:23 pmtjvirden wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 12:04 pmWhat sort of pressures were you running?
