Cipollini Bond 2: 7.25kg with pedals. Fork dropout measurement added.
Moderator: robbosmans
Hiya,
A new build is on the horizon - thought I'd go through some rough weights (not measured - don't quote me!) to see if they're realistic. I'll get measuring once all the components are in.
Frame and fork: 1400g. (Unpainted - how much will paint add?)
Wheels (Winspace Hyper Rim 50mm): 1360g
Tyres (Hutchinson Fusion 5 Galactik): 500g
Groupset (Ultegra 6800, rim, 50/34, 11-28): 2340g
Bars (Deda Zero 100, 380mm): 250g
Stem (Deda Zero 100, 80mm): 125g
Saddle (Selle Italia SLR Team): 170g
Bar tape (no idea which): 100g
Cables (inner and outer): 200g
Seatpost (provided with frame - no idea what the weight is): 200g
Pedals (shimano PD-A600): 300g
So it seems the paint, BB, and QR skewers will take me over 7kg. An unpainted bike might work, but I think I might need the latter parts.
Q1: Quite happy with my 6800 chainset and shimano BB. But I'll need a decent, reliable BB to go on the new frame to work with my HTII cranks - the frame is unfortunately BB386 evo standard. Any suggestions?
Q2: Are there any realistic weight savings to be made (I'm thinking bar and stem) without breaking the bank? TBH I'm not fussed about weight on its own... but if there's a benefit to comfort too then it might convince me to buy a few new shiny bits.
Best regards.

Selle Italia SLR Carbonio might save you ~50g, and the flexing carbon shell is quite comfy for my behind, but that is very personal

!00g for bar tape? Also lightweight cable set can be half the weight of standard cables.
Agree. Lovely saddle. After testing a handful that is what I ended up with.
But as you say that comes down to individual preferences.
Thanks for the replies.
I have everything already (replacing frame, wheels and tyres basically). I shan't be recycling the bar tape, or cables though.
Ok, so that's good news - bar tape will weigh less than 100g.
Cable wise, I'm a fan of the polymer coated shimano cables - SO smooth when new (coating strips off over time though, and makes a mess if removing them from the shifter end).
I've got another Selle Italia on my gravel bike (can't remember which model) - very comfy, but manganese rails (heavier). Keen to try the Carbino - I can do that on bike fit day.
Err... BB wise, I'm getting worried. Why so many standards? Whatever happened to picking the groupset you wanted, without having the faff of choosing a 3rd party BB or a conversion kit?

Quick update:
My current build (Dolan L'Etape) weighs 7.85kg with pedals and bottle cages. I'm carrying most of the components over, however I thought I'd do some subtracting to see where I might end up (based on new components)...
Mavic Ksyrium Elite (rim brake) with GP5000 TLR (valves, sealant, skewers)... Vs Winspace Hyper 50mm with Fusion 5 Galactik TLR:
Front wheel: 170g saving
Rear wheel: 210g saving
Total wheel & tyre combo weight saving: 380g (measured).
Weighed my Dolan fork: 540g... there should be a 140g saving there (projected).
That's over 500g of weight saved so far.
Provided the new frame weight is close to 1kg as advertised, there should be another 200g saving (fingers crossed).
I'll update once the frame is here and weighed.

As far as pressfit bottom brackets go, BB386EVO is pretty inoffensive imo. Get a thread-together bottom bracket and you'll probably be fine.

Thanks. Just ordered the Token BB (struggled to find it in stock at the usual large online retailers, but hopefully I'll get it before the frame arrives).jch3n wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 1:27 amAs far as pressfit bottom brackets go, BB386EVO is pretty inoffensive imo. Also waiting on a chainring and jockey wheels and should be good to go.

Do you have Dolan L'Etape SL version (2020)?
I'm looking for frameset for training and racing and interestring what Dolan L'Etape SL is filling while riding and overall build quality.
It is looks exactly as NeilPryde Bura SL which was UCI Approved and Dolan L'Etape SL is not by some reason.
Interesting if Dolan just use same mold and bit different materials in this case.
Hiya - I have the 2016 version (which ran for a number of years).HolyDiver wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:20 amHello,

This is the EXACT bike I bought (for £1500): https://www.220triathlon.com/gear/bike/ ... ke-review/
Changed the seat post and saddle... added pedals and bottle cages... 7.85kg. Happy with that for the money.
Dolan have two Letapes at the moment - one rather angular looking thing with dropped seat stays, and one which is more akin to mine with a (curved top tube).
I was quite happy with mine - 1145g for a painted S (44) frame. Forks are rather heavy at 545g (aluminium steerer) though. Mine came with a BSA threaded BB. Never creaked, groaned or given me any bother.
I expect the newer frame sets to be lighter given that they come with a full carbon fork.
I hate this sort of anecdotal comparison (totally meaningless) but managed to keep up with my buddy on his (circa £9k) Storck Aernario with all sorts of bells, whistles, aero wheels, and sexy bits (20 mph average). Not bad for a midget MAMIL!
Are you UK based?
No, I'm from Ukraine and that's why I want to find more about this brand and L'Etape SL frame before made any decision.
Do you know if Dolan have some sort of discounts on holidays like Christmas or etc?
I'm not in rush so I can wait and I want to update to full carbon fiber frameset for training and racing.
They used to do a sale around Christmas... thing is, components are hard to get at the moment.HolyDiver wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 9:18 pmNo, I'm from Ukraine and that's why I want to find more about this brand and L'Etape SL frame before made any decision.

I don't expect significat discount from anyone until the supply chain gets back to normal.
Frame and fork weights.
Problem with fork - wheel doesn't fit without pulling the fork tubes apart. Not sure how it left the factory like that.
So out of the box, the the Dolan was better (ie the wheels actually fit LOL!). Will update once I've built and ridden it.
