Wahoo speedplay zero - weird side to side movement
Moderator: robbosmans
There are so many good things about this updated design, why would you want to go back. The biggest improvement that I see is the wear issue that the old pedals have [causing rocking]. This new design is a really great idea to fix that problem.
I am giving the Wahoo Speedplay Zeros a go and really curious to know if anyone who has experienced the lateral play issue has actually derived the root cause?
I have also tried both and agree that the clip-in force is much reduced. My solution for base surounds with easy tension was similar ($$). I noticed that asside from the grey color the plastic base, the only real difference was the in the thickness of the arch at the kneck of the wishbone spring clip, so I simply swapped the clips with those of the standard tension cleats.Prawn wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:19 amYes - tried both. I really like the the grey cleats becuase they make clipping out much easier. Unlike the old light-action speedplay cleats, the new cleats have propper float adjustment. The only downside to the grey cleats is that they don't come with the additional covers - a problem which can be solved (with $) by taking them from a set of the black cleats.

Really need a poll:
If you purchased the new wahoo Speedplay were they defective with side-to-side play?
Yes (defective)
No (they worked)
Personally, I just bought some J&L parts to update some of my current sets. I don't think the quality is there yet on the new ones based on this thread. Once the QC clears up then maybe. Also read the other thread of stripping the bolt while trying to change axles. They really should’ve included the little cap that is removeable like on the current ones. I also bought all the bolts for the cleats and adapters so I don't need to worry about star bits. Currently, I'd only trust the cleats, since they are largely the same.

Why? Wahoo/Speedplay has no issues anymore as it seems. I had two sets (one off them I broke myself) and they have both been replaced (no further questions asked) and they work flawlessy (and I received a complete set so also 2 extra pairs of cleats). The design is better, more stable, imo more beautiful because it doesn't wear on the sides and is maintenance free. Although I would have liked to opt for lighter axles through J&L (riskfull but still possible) and I would like to complain about Wahoo (:D ) this is an almost perfect upgrade. I'm using the normal/old Speedplays for more than 10 years now and they are great to (upgraded them with all kinds off J&L stuff) but the Wahoo versions are handsdown much better.....woodyvalentine wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 6:35 amReally need a poll:

Mine developed the same sideways play on both pedals (bought around the launch date). Even though the Wahoo support was a bit annoying (Getting thrown between wahoo, original seller and the national distributor) they quickly sent me a new pair. We'll then have to see how they hold up. I really hope that they have control over the issue now.

I had the same issue after 6 months of having and using these. I got in contact with my LBS, they contacted Wahoo and Wahoo said straight away to give me a new set, but also send the faulty pair to Wahoo for research.
My LBS said I’m the fourth person with the issue. They’ve done their own research and it seems that the seal and redesign (non maintenance pedal type) is faulty. But as everyone, they’re waiting for Wahoo’s official reply to the issue.

Had the issue on x3 sets, Wahoo replaced them all after I sent video's of each. They gave me a free Tickr and let me keep the cleats on all.
The 4th set I am on now are working perfectly and no issues. Customer service superb, was a pain sorting it, now sorted. Better pedals than speedplay with the rocking etc.

Just submitted a support request to Wahoo and hopefully will be able to get these replaced, although I am thinking I would like a set of the aero-one sided, otherwise I am back on the Dura Ace.

Any updates regarding the side-to-side play on the Wahoo Speedplay pedals?
(any serial numbers to watch for and avoid? / recall parts to be replaced? / corrected version to be released?)
It's itching me to order a set as my old Speedplay cleats are running out and have no replacement anymore.
Thanks in advance

I bought a set in beginning of October and RH pedal developed side to side play late December. I reported it via the Wahoo website- included a video and receipt. Got told not to use them and recieved a brand new set including cleats 6 days later.
I haven't had to send anything back, can't fault the customer service. I hope these ones will last as I think they are much improved on the original design for stability and cleat wear.

I am in the US and when I reported mine, they emailed me a FedEx shipping label to use to return the pedals, but the warranty team did not ship a set of replacement pedals until FedEx updated the tracking status.DieselCondor wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 2:50 amI haven't had to send anything back, can't fault the customer service.
