Aethos: Weird creaking/noise
Moderator: robbosmans
Hey. I have this weird creaking on my aethos which I believe is the rear through axle. It's greased and torqued to spec but it almost seems like the flex in the frame causes the hub to move in the dropouts a tiny bit. Does anyone else have this problem?
I ruled out headset, crankset and bb already (just switched cranks and BB for silly reasons and it's unchanged...)

Could definitely be the cassette. Need to make sure the lockring is tight. I also usualyl will make sure each gear on the cassette is fully in correct position (no forward play with rotation) before tightening down the lock ring. It's probably not the thru-axle.flyordie wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 8:46 pmHey. I have this weird creaking on my aethos which I believe is the rear through axle. What wheelset are you running?
Some of those rovals have creaky spokes.
Gotta grease where the spokes overlap on the back wheel.

Try greasing the endcaps on the rear wheel hub. I get a creak on my evo with one wheelset if i don't, evo dropouts probably not completely square

Had something like that under power/torque/climbs. Replaced endcaps of I9 hub, gone.

Try riding the bike on a trainer and seeing if someone else can pin point where the noise is coming from.
I had this on a Madone; it took my other half listening while I rode it on the turbo to identify it was coming from the bb area, and then I narrowed it down to the plastic top hat.
