Where to buy aluminium brake caliper nuts?
Moderator: robbosmans
Hello,
I recently swapped my Sram shifter clamps to Schmolke Shimano clamps. Part of the Shimano system is using M6 nuts just like you average rear brake caliper nuts.
The steel ones weigh some 5 grams, shortened to some 6-7 mm.
I'm looking to upgrade them to aluminium alloy to save some additional weight.
Does anyone know where you can find aluminium M6 nuts?

Are these aluminium and are they threaded all the way through so then can be cut down to size?mikemelbrooks wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 9:52 amhttps://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brakes/shim ... y8a023000/

The seller states they are aluminium, I don't know if they are threaded all the way through. But if not then threading it should be easy, also they have different lengths for sale. I have a few aluminium nuts in my garage that came with the Fourier/planet X brake set. Where in the world are you?Lucendi wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 10:01 amI asked the seller if has more than just the one in stock, but he didn't.Bobbyc123 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 9:33 amI got some of these recently https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-Sram ... 890.l49286

I am in the UK but can't post at the moment as I am isolating, (Covid).
A donation from fellow WW-meber mikemelbrooks arrived today. Thanks again Mike!!
Some aluminium alloy brake caliper nuts to be used with the shifter clamp;
They needed to be threaded a bit deeper, so I drilled and tapped them all the way through.
The final weight came to 1.9 grams!! vs steel ones at 5,5 grams, a 3,6 gram weight saving!
Since I drilled out and tapped the nuts I slotted them to work with a screwdriver bit;
The stock Sram Red 22 shifters weighed about 280 g, these tuned weigh 226 g now, a 54 gram total weight saving.
