Looking for minimal top tube bag..?
Moderator: robbosmans
Hello!
I'm looking for a really small top tube bag.
Big enough just for a slice of cake, or a couple of chocolate bars, or a bag of M&Ms, or sth.
The smallest I've found are ~15cm long, for example:

https://roguepanda.com/shop/rincon-top-tube-bag/
https://www.evocsports.com/TOP-TUBE-PACK/102802604-S
I'm looking for sth smaller - say, 10cm long or thereabouts.
Does anyone know of anything smaller than the above?
Thanks!

Well you could try making your own, for example getting a moulded EVA case, and then adding your own velcro straps.
The ones that are used for cameras and other e-gadgets.
Here's a small one:

Specialized Remora? Going even smaller than that makes the bag seem kinda pointless IMHO…

I´d look at the Triathlon-targeted bags from Pro or Profile Designs...they're designed to hold only a few gels, can't get smaller than that. I have a similar one that came with my Fuji Jari but I am not sure if you can buy that one separately. To be honest it's almost too small to be useful for anything...at the same time it's big enough to hit it with my knees when climbing out of the saddle, so I definitely do not want a bigger one.

I have the 915 model and have been very happy with it. https://darkspeedworks.com/products.htm
The most minimal would be a TT bento box. A classic M&M bag is 10cm, but you'd need a bag at least 15cm external to put that in. I wouldn't go smaller than something than Cervelo/Felt one (~25cm) unless it's hitting you in the crotch at stoplights. I don't think you're going to find anythign with a zipper less than .3l / ~20cm long. Width and height are more important. If that size bothers you (25cm), i'd point you to a mini frame bag and mount it in the triangle
I think this is the smallest you can go, and there's a lot of unusable space.

TT bento boxes are made to just cram gels in sticking up, not in. The Speciallized made a short soft one, but it was wide and would hit your legs https://www.specialized.com/is/en/remor ... e/p/131464

Have you considered the original Speedsleev?
That's going to be the smallest and lightest top tube 'bag' that I can think of:
https://www.speedsleev.com/product/orig ... eev-large/
All it is is a piece of wide lycra/elastic with velcro that wraps around the top tube and whatever you want to put there.
It won't work for a piece of cake, but it should work for energy bars and/or gels (and/or M&Ms).
There's one on ebay now:

I'm getting one, see how it goes.

I'm running with your suggestion to make my own!
Trying out different heights and lengths (I know I want it to be no wider than the top tube) at the moment; after I've finalized the design, I'm planning to get a local bag maker to make one for me out of denim.

Cool!
What are you holding with the Speedsleev (gels?), and where on your bike are you using it?
Watching the video of the Speedsleev got me thinking about where else on the bike I have space to store/wrap/put things.
First up, a new place for my windbreaker:
