Etap AXS XPLR
Moderator: robbosmans
So I know I was advocating for Xplr pretty vocally here, but now reading the details its no longer something I am considering as the perfect for me 1x road solution.
My reasons:
Derailleur is dedicated 1x only (so no opportunity tonrun a 10-36 with 2x rings)
Force cassette is on the heavy side
Cog spacing is undesirable
For me, eagle 1x axs will live on my gravel bike and ill piece together a shimano 2x for my road bike. Oh well, nice try but on paper the eagle axs mullet offers more bang for the buck

I highly doubt 2 more teeth would present a problem. My 36t AXS derailleur with a Wolftooth link shifts my e13 9-46 just fine.
The bigger problem is that e13 and rotors cassettes do not share the same cog spacing as axs road therefore the shifting isn't as crisp
so is ur axs mech shifting fine or not crispy?gSporco wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 7:27 amI highly doubt 2 more teeth would present a problem. My 36t AXS derailleur with a Wolftooth link shifts my e13 9-46 just fine.

The 10-44 is a bigger cassette than the 11-46. The 10T gear is a 10% taller gear than the 11t, so like for like range, the 44t is a 48t. The xplr is 440% vs 418%
Assumeing you're willing to shrink your big ring 10% and put an XDR cassette on the bike, the 10-44t is a bigger gearset. If you already own a 11-46t, you should be fine
Both models of the force RD have the same 42T wrap capacity, since both have the same 70.5mm cage length. Measure the xplr cage to get an idea of the true maximum wrap capacity. I use the standard Force AXS RD with a 17T difference in front and a 26T difference on the 10-36 cassette.
It's probably large sprocket to upper jockey pulley clearance that may be a problem, but 2T shouldn't be a big deal.

I favor 11-46 cos its initial jumps are 11,12,13,15,17 instead of 10,11,13,15,17. I also made the switch to 1x from red axs 46/33 10-33 and i can retain many same gears with 11-46 using a 46T chainring.jfranci3 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 12:31 pmThe 10-44 is a bigger cassette than the 11-46. AXS mech is super... e13 was never designed for AXS and gets jumpy on the lower cogs.aquilinx wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 9:49 amso is ur axs mech shifting fine or not crispy?gSporco wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 7:27 amI highly doubt 2 more teeth would present a problem. It does work, it just doesnt shift very smoothly and some of the cogs in the lower middle of the cassette are a bit noisy.. e13 states on their site that the TRS 12 speed cassette was developed before AXS and may not be as smooth.. They have since come out with Helix Cassette which is supposed to be as smooth as the Sram cassettes, however, they are 9-50 and 9-52, "no" 9-46 yet.. So these are designed for the Eagle Derailleur and the Eagle or KMC 12 speed chains..
I suspect with XPLR out now, e13 will answer with a 9-44 or a 9-46 cassette for XPLR AXS.. but with Covid, I suspect not until 2022.
THis all being said, if you are running Eagle AXS Mullet on gravel, I would stick to this for a bit until things shake out before jumping on the XPLR band wagon.. XPRL is nice, but limited in my opinion as its extremely scoped in its use to gravel and possibly CX. You have 2 cassette choices to use 10-36 or 10-44 and you cant use a front Mech if you decide to go 2x in the future.. Eagle vs XPLR gives you the difference of 1 cog where there is a 1 tooth jump, 10-11 cog for XPLR.. This for me isnt impressive enough to jump on the XPLR band wagon..
With Eagle AXS you can use 9-46, 9-50, 9-52 from e13 and the Sram 10-50 and 10-52 cassettes, you could probably even use the XPLR 10-44 cassette with a Eagle AXS RD and make it work reasonably well.
I have force axs rear mech with garbaruk cage which supports up to 52t. But I am considering to purchase xplr cassette as 10-44 is good gearing for me and my eagle cassette is not shifting the best.
Tell me one thing please - is there some special function of xplr rear mech except wider range? Maybe some clutch mechanism to avoid chain slap?
I'm the feature set, there is only "chain management".

1x specific RDs should have a different travel geometry, from what I've read on the paceline forum. The force RD is intended for 1x or 2x use. The RD cage has a clutch, but as sold, even the 36T version won't clear a 44T sprocket. It does have about a 42T wrap capacity. That's enough for 1x, but not 2x.

It has the Orbit damper same as your current mech. Not a full clutch like Eagle.req110 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:30 pmI have force axs rear mech with garbaruk cage which supports up to 52t. The XPLR cage is different than the rest of the road axs cages; it has a more linear design, tuned for 1x drivetrains. I believe the jockey wheels are both aligned with each other and the cog, as opposed to the lower jockey wheel being slightly offsetreq110 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:30 pmI have force axs rear mech with garbaruk cage which supports up to 52t.
