Ekar w/ Chorus 12sp

I currently running Campy Chorus 12 and want to go 1x for fast flat rides using my current 11-32t cassette. I'd like to modify the current crank but I am unable to find a narrow wide chainring for it. Will the Ekar 13sp crankset work well with the rest of Chorus 12sp? Thanks

Why wouldn't it? I can think of no reason why it wouldn't work...🤔
(what you can't do is expect the 13 speed chain to work on all chainrings)

Surely an Ekar chainring should fit onto your Chorus crank, as both are speced as 123 mm BCD on the Campy website?

But if you still want to go for the full crank, remember you'll also need to swap out the bottom bracket as Pro-Tech isn't quite the same as UltraTorque…

I have an ekar chain. It's quite a bit narrower than a Campy 12 or axs chain. I use axs chains with shimano grx 11 speed and Campy 12 cranks, but the ekar won't fit the grx crank. There's some chance it would be a snug fit, but work with a Campy 12 crank. I no longer have a Campy 12 crank to try.

Ekar and Chorus cranks are effectively the same, so I would expect you can put Ekar chainring on the Chorus crank.
My only concern would be if it won't turn out to be too narrow to keep the chain properly engaged on bumps - might be good to check for experiences of running 12s chainrings with 11s chain - it should be enough to simulate the behaviour of 12s chain on 13s ring.

You'd be limited to a top gear of 40x11 which might not work too well for fast rides.

For fast, flat rides, chorus 2x12 is probably about as good as it gets. Just stay in the big ring the whole ride and use the cassette to manage speed changes. Maybe a smaller cassette. What is it about your current ride that you'd like to improve?

Just a bit of weight and simplicity, I don't use my 34T inner ring at all.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

If you're absolutely certain you'll never go to the mountains, you could just remove the small ring, front mech, and gut the left shifter so it is only a brake lever.

I ride in big ring only for a lot of rides, but I also visit mountains now and then so the small ring is still useful.

Why don't you just remove the small chainring and adjust the mech over the big ring for chain security? We used to do this for years on mountain bikes without issue before narrow wide came along

Definitely a consideration. Ideally would want a narrow wide 48t ring but can't seem to source one.

In the past I have considered SRAM AXS with a single chainring and could settle for 44t due to the 10t smallest cassette cog available on AXS.

With an 11t smallest cassette cog I would want 48t as well, but Ekar has a 9t small cog, so will naturally only be available with smaller chainrings. 48t and 9t would be a bit crazy - equivalent to a 58t chainring and 11t cassette cog!!

What ever the outcome of this thread, I really hope Campag standardise and move the R / SR BCD standard to the same as Chorus & Ekar for the upcoming generation. Third parties would likely then support the ecosystem.

I have read elsewhere that a new Ekar (or second gravel group) crank is in development with a smaller bcd to take 36 tooth chainrings.
