Thinking about this for a hills climb project. Would be the 170mm 110bcd.. can it be run 1x (rear mech is the etap 11speed gen2 with a clutch)? If I can run it 1x what are the best chain ring options

Assuming you’re after a narrow-wide 1x specific chainring?

Yes and probably Oval...
Also Gloss or Matt? My darimo parts will be gloss but wonder if a black gloss bike with gloss post, bar and stem and crank will look good or dated?

Why not fibre-lyte? they're based in the U.K. iirc, and nothing will beat their weights. They don't offer narrow-wide; if you're looking for NW then lightworks carbon rings offer a full range of tooth capacities in both 110 and 130 BCD, weight is on par with fibre-lyte.
Torno cranks use a proprietary chainring made by Wolftooth...and its round...not oval, but does come in narrow wide.
I'm using one on a 3T Strada pet project.

The Torno crank itself is pretty light, however that chainring is a tank unfortunately.

It won’t be oval, but Digitit make carbon 1x rings in direct mount. I had a 52T on a time trial bike that was stiff and surprised me with durability.
Hi guys - I am more or less with the same challenge.
So for my Hill Climb bike I would like to try switching from 2x to 1x.
1. Do I really need a narrowwide chainring, or maybe I can built / buy a guide for the chain instead of using a narrowwide chainring?
2. How do I get the best "chainline"? Because the Clavicula was meant for the use of 2 chainrings..
3. which chainring can you recommend?
4. should I shave the brake/shift lever??
This would be my ride atm:

From my experience the the narrow-wide rings have a deeper trough/taller teeth which seems to help chain retention. I’ve ran without a rear clutched rear derailleur (red etap 11s) and never dropped a chain.
If you’re going a standard ring you’ll likely drop if you’re not spot on for chain line. A 2x ring is literally designed to drop and pop up a chain out of line when you make a shift.

Sorry for the old thread bump, but this seemed appropriate. I've been running 1x Fibrelyte on my Clavicula for a couple of years, with the stock FL 1x tabs. Some time ago, when I tried to fit an aluminum 1x chainring, when installed with tabs, the chainring bolts weren't long enough - the Al chainring was apparently thicker than a CF one. Those who run 1x on a Clavicula and other CF-spidered cranks, did you use the tabs? After reading this, so I'm not sure whether to find even longer bolts (mine are quite long already) or skip the tabs

Torno was released over 4 years ago and there is no one on the web, other than 3T that sells it?
Even 3T has none for sale...
The advantage to a 1X designed crank is that it should put the ring dead center of where the
mid point is between a 2X
