I still have 11sp too and gave 12sp a miss due to weight and the lack of cassette options (and the lack of any evidence for a real performance improvement beyond the mechanical gear cabling, which can be retro-fitted).
So I'm hoping that the next gen. is lighter. That might sell it to me, and I could live with a 13sp 11-29. If it wasn't too heavy.
Why can't Campy make a one-piece lightweight cassette like the SRAM 11sp?
Maybe now that Campy have a gravel specific group in Ekar they can go back to focussing on pure-road needs with the next SR/Record/Chorus update.
A patent problem?

Honest question, why would you ever need or want 2x13?
Why would anyone want 2x12? Or 2x11? Or 2x10 before that? Maybe they should have stopped way back at 2x5?

I don't need 2x13 as such, but if I can only get an 11-29 instead of a 12-25 I need as many cogs as possible to fill the gaps..

I hope more 12 speed cassette options come one day.

I don't have a 12sp yet [most parts are here, some on the way] but I thought better shifting was part of the 12sp now. Is it possible to make better, better?
They could make it better with a different charging port. The one they have now sucks.
As for more gears, of course you don't need 13, but you could argue that you do not need 12 too. If it is possible, why not? Of course, if it does not work right, then that would be one reason not to make it. Not hearing much that the Ekar is bad.
I personally think Di2 shifts better than EPS, though my favorite bike is EPS and I think Campagnolo braking is better and there's something special about how Campagnolo feels and looks.

When 12 speed EPS was released, campy said that it was the last EPS, implying that the next electric group would be significantly differnt and not called EPS. : )

I mentioned this in the other thread, wouldn't one expect EPS to trickle down to record and chorus before a new 13 speed groups it comes out? 12 speed is still new!

One hopes they’re headed for some sort of wireless system. Even though SRAM has the patent for this, there has to be some way around it.
I also hope for 2X13. I want one cassette to do all of my riding, massive range, and tight spacing. This can only come from more gears in the cassette or a 3X. I won’t consider 1X until it’s up to 1X16.

I think the rumoured DA wireless configuration is the way round the patent issue.....wireless shifters, wired derailleurs.

Sram may have their wireless protocol patented (Shimano also has patents on it) I don't think it can prevent others from using wireless communication.......................and on replaceable batteries, Shimano has its patents and in competition prototypes of the 7970 with replaceable battery were used (it was in the FD)

Honest question, why would you ever need or want 2x13? Adding more gears doesn't make everything better.
Funny word, "need". It doesn't have to make everything better, it only has to make one small thing better. And strickly speaking, you probably don't "need" gears at all... heck, you don't "need" a bike either.
Personally, I wouldn't mind 2x13 if it was available. Why? I currently run 11sp 11-29 with a 34-50 compact crankset. The 50/11 can sometimes not be enough on a good descent (granted, not very often), the 34/29 is very very often not low enough for the crazy climbs here, and there is at least one jump in the casette that I find a bit annoying (wasn't so problematic on the 12-29 I had before, but 50/12 was definitely not high enough).
So I will take an 11-32 casette with 13 cogs. Will solve the most important issues I have. As for the 50/11 not being high enough... well, guess I can live with that, doesn't bother me sooooo much. Or do as a buddy did, and change rings to 34-52. He swears it works just fine, but I've never tried it.
It all depends on the terrain you ride. I live in Switzerland... take one turn and you'll find yourself going up a 2000m vertical alpine climb with 25% ramps, then come down the other side doing 90kph on tyres thinner than my thumb and a bike that weighs less than a dog's turd. Isn't it fun
Bring on 2x13 I say!

Will people stop repeating this. SRAM doesn't have a patent on wireless shifting. Nothing they have patented prevents one of the big three from implementing wireless shifting. Not even fully wireless with batteries in derailleurs.
