That gasket looks like it is helping dampen movement as well as just keeping dirt out.
On the second look (or fifth actually... took a while) it seems clear to me that the accordion-like structure has a reason, and your reaction seems close: I think it's intended to properly isolate minor movement from the contact surfaces so that the contact between gasket and post at the upper end and between gasket and frame on the lower end isn't compromised by the stress from the deformation caused by the movement.

At least there is progress. Doesn't look that bad in black on Nairo's Bike.

Just had this in email from Canyon:
Recieved the same e-mail (Belgian customer)! That's good news!
Indeed the same email in Belgium except for the fact that they expect to deliver bikes still only in "het najaar" = autumn.
That is still painfully long.

I don't mind the gasket thing either but now the side height markers are kind of useless

Looking at the picture I´m not sure if the gasket is just on top of the seat tube or is also as a kind of damper between seat tube and seat post?

If its tight enough on the seat post, that concertina shape pushed down hard enough agaisnt the top tupe would provide some Dampening effect. However i would imagine it will losen over time and end up doing nothing.

Well, my bike is finally getting shipped back for a warranty evaluation so at least that's progress and the CS people were very polite. I'm hoping that when available, they'll just send me a whole new bike instead of swapping over the components to a new frame. Canyon said it just boils down to the availability of parts but said it would definitely be easier on their end to just ship out a complete bike. I also mentioned that color didn't matter to me really so a black bike or white bike is fine and again it just boils down to availability.

So hopefully for everyones sake the parts being tested in the TDF pass with flying colors and things can get moving again. At least we'll have a couple weeks of watching the TDF to pass time.
