S-works carbon road cranks problem
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi all
when I look from above I can see some lateral movement of the chainring at the same part of the crank revolution (opposite side of the crank). It is not big but I can see it.
It is a new bike and every bolt is tight and there is no play anywhere.
Is this normal?

So the chainring is warped or the spider is.
First you need to figure out if it's one or the other, or both. You can put the chainring on a flat surface like a sheet of glass. See if you can wobble it sideways.
If the out of true is only very slight I wouldn't bother. But yes I understand if it's new it shouldn't be. None of my bikes are new or nearly new so I'm speaking from a practical point of view.
If it's the spider you could either warranty it or try to shim it/bend it (alloy spider). First locate the arm that is misaligned by using a ziptie or some sort of gauge that you can position to barely make contact, then compare the 5 spider arms.
Sometimes the chainring teeth bend in a small section, often when handling the bike without wheels and putting it down etc.
