You have crazy many bikes and i can see that you'd like to explore aluminium!
Go for it!
I was surprised too. Isn't aluminium the harshest to ride on?
A custom Ti bike isn't the paramount of metal frames ? it is my dream in any case.

Don't be so sure of that!
I'd say a carbon frame rides better if it's well designed.

I thought so too, but had a Giant Contend with carbon fork and seatpost, it was a very smooth ride.

Concluded that it's not the frame material that makes for a harsh, or smooth ride, but how well it is designed. This frequently applies to carbon frames and I'm sure there are good and bad Ti bike frames too.

I ride carbon bikes only.

Not sure why, but I dream to build an ultralight metal frame to keep for years.
As steel is heavy and corrode and aluminium fatigue, Ti seems better, and don't need to be painted.

Or magnesium?

I have been thinking of alu because i think it can be done great to. For ride feel i'd pick steel over Ti.
I think Ti cost too much.

The lemon coloured Palace 3C doesn't look boring. I just really liked the two tone colours and wish the design had been carried over from the R.

Just resurrecting this, I'd say the new Kinesis Aithein as I've had great experiences with mine, looking at Spooky as well as a second option..

There seem to be quite a few QC issues with the current crop of Bowmans. There's a lot of people on forums complaining about frames arriving damaged or out of alignment. That said, a guy at my club has just put one together (with mechanical DA) and is very happy with it.

If you don't mind the BB, I think it's hard to look past a CAAD for a racy alu bike. Prior to the current madness, you could pick up a good quality second hand CAAD frame for under £500. Rim brake version, lightly used Ultegra gruppo, some well-chosen but not expensive components, and sub 8kg with pedals was easy for £1500-2000, maybe less. Sub 7 was possible if you were prepared to spend.

My other half had an Emonda ALR and that was the standard equipment 105 disc version with the heavy Bontrager alloys and that was a touch over 9kg with pedals. I didn't ride it much (too small) but that seemed a good allrounder, though the geo chart suggests a not v racy fit.

I like the look of the Standerts but I've never ridden one.

The Mason Definition is a fantastic bike, but it's not that light and not *that* racy. Sporty end of endurance, I'd say, and focused on eating up long miles, but mine coped very well with fast-ish club runs. Quality finish and a great allrounder - just depends what you want.

I bought an Emonda alr disc frameset but it ended up being a 58 rather than a 54. I weighed it before it was returned.

Size 58
Fork, TA, topcap, expander - 475g
Frame, TA, seat clamp, cage bolts - 1400g
Headset, cable guides - 105g

Looking to build up an Aluminium frameset. Any advice on brands? Does not have to be mainstream brand....and it should be the lightest available

- Discbrakes
- Flatmount
- thru axle
- Race geometry
- GXP BB compability
- internal Brakelines
- No Budget Limit

I saw that as well. Looks interesting at the very least. Currently using a Standert Frame. It is nice…..and used it for some gravel routes as well. But doesn’t feel lively at all. Image
