Looks pretty nice... $6,500 is quite pricey though. Pass for me.

Which is extremely unlikely you will (unless you live in Taiwan, or a country with super low wages). €500 for a paint job isn't even that much. Stripping the paint, repainting in several layers etc just costs a lot of time. One days work of an electrician (for example) costs a customer €500 in Germany (+ 19% VAT). Don't know the hourly wages of a "bike painter", but I wouldn't be surprised if it's about similar.GothicCastle wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 3:15 amI'd like you to find someone who can reproduce that paint job competently for $250
Edit: I didn't read properly, I guess we have a similar opinion

What flaws are you referring to ?MyM3Coupe wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 8:31 amPaint makes it cheaper to hide flaws in the layup. Another reason it's a bike for kids and clowns.GothicCastle wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 3:15 amI'd like you to find someone who can reproduce that paint job competently for $250

But you're making it sound like Specialized and me (or any individual buyer) is the same thing. I agree that it's not 500Eu isn't that much for me to bring a frame to someone to have them repaint it...but I'd get what I want.
This is Specialized likely taking a raw frame (no stripping required) to their normal "paint shop" to have them make it one of 100 other framesets painted in an assembly line fashion.
If someone thinks it neat and can afford it, by all means get it...but I don't think its the same as a regular person visiting hot tubes or wherever for a custom one off.

Certainly, it will be a lot more expensive to get a the painted frame stripped and then repaint it (would be surprised if a paintjob replica of this Bennett edition was available sub €1,000). Specialized will have a much better infrastructure and of course can use bare frames. Nevertheless, a super low quantity, multi-layered paintjob, with several colors and many "non-straight lines" will likely be more expensive to make, than a more standard paintjob.

Don't buy raw carbon / "superlight" framesets, they worth less than painted ones yet selling at the same price (or more)
