Had a thought - and I'm probably wrong, but...
What if the Aethos and the new Alberto Contador bike are the same thing?
He's well known for having his mechanics go to great lengths to shave weight (just to add it back again to hit 6.8, but that's another story).
His new bike has an A logo (without the horizontal line, if I remember right) - everyone assumed that's for Alberto. Could be for Aethos.
And he tested it on his everesting record run, and was quoted as saying it had new materials or something like that and he was checking the current iteration. And if Specialized is hitting less than 600 grams for a disc frame, might need something more exotic than just normal resin + carbon fiber.
Finally, this would be Specialized stealing Alberto from Trek, which, they'd probably want to do.
Again, I'm probably wrong. But it's possible!

Doesn't look like it says Aethos. Looks like Auron or something.

To fuel your speculation...the black and white stripe paint job (on everesting bike) reminds me of the future car model spy photos with the wrap/paint jobs to disguise the shape/lines/details.sethjs wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 10:36 pmHad a thought - and I'm probably wrong, but...

Also, what if his new Contador Foundation team was sponored by Specialized?

With the name, my money would be on Aurora, would also fit the seemingly changing colors of the blueish lines - then again, blueish lines also fit aethos quite well.
What intrigued me more on the picture though is the way the cables are routed. Looks like they go directly into the frame through a new hole in the front of the headtube instead of through the spacers as it's most common currently.
Definitely interesting, but not sure what this would mean for structural integrity...

It’s unlikely to be drilled out rather than molded with proper reinforcement. What it does mean is the hoses/wires go under the the headset upper bearing rather than through it. A minor convenience that allows you to replace the bearing without disconnecting your brake lines. That style of entry may not be best for the longevity of the housings...I’m sure we all remember how common split housings were on old SuperSixes.

Hmmmm... none of the parts / shapes resemble anything Specialized released in recent years. Would be quite an "interesting" move and Marketing-wise a coup.
