Looks like Ekar is landing at a similar price to GRX Di2 based on the willier build. Will need to be light if it isn't electronic

i rather welcome this freehub design. :beerchug: it will be even more awesome if they make it backward upgrad-able for existing wheels, just replace the old freehub.

on the other hand....no rim brake for the new Shamal ultra and no aluminium spokes. i wonder if Racing 0 will follow.
Some say pour 10ml water out of your bottle to save that last bit of the weight. Sorry, i go one step further, i tend to the rider off my bikes.

What would the point of a new Shamal Carbon rim brake be when you can get Boras? No ones riding gravel on rim brakes, so the wider rim isn’t giving much benefit there.

It appears that the N3W hub can be retrofitted to old wheels also

Problem with "n3W" is without clues to orientation you would read it the more obvious way as "MEU"

There will be a 1x13 Gravel group called EKAR

(use the drop down menu...it wont be cheap)
Edit: Yep, there they are as build options for the Wilier.

There's a video here:

in the video, 1 bike with Shimano GRX................

So you guys saw the 1x13 on that Wilier? I just checked now and it only shows GRX options. Maybe the website caught their early release mistake and removed it? What was the price???

impressive!!!

That's a good price-point and right in-line with GRX di2 assuming 1x13 is going to be electronic.

More new stuff?

A new patent for press fit BB cups that house the bearing in the cup - not on the crank shafts. The details (fig 8) allow for bearing on the shafts, but most of the patent details are for press-fit cups that can deform better for an interference fit. Also, talk of composite/carbon cups.

https://www.pat2pdf.org/patents/pat10704595.pdf

Could this be a details associated with a new 1-by chainset?

That would be a step back I think... The Campagnolo crank design is superior to any other because it uses bearings as they are intended - with an internal interference fit. This makes for a much longer bearing life and because a crank can be machined extremely precisely out of steel - a better precise fit.

EDIT: I believe the groupset might actually be electronic... The name EKAR sounds funny, like it was an acronym for something starting with Electronic (Electronic ... All Road?). Based on their latest N3W name that might be the case.

I think with 13 speeds and off road it needs to be precise don't think mechanical can handle it over the longterm once dust gets on the cables.

I'm curoius to see if they go wired or wireless and if they use a clutched rear derailler or use a lock mechanism that engages/disengages when shifting since it's electronic
