I am building up an Emonda SL frame, but I have a question about the length of the 2 bolts for the rear caliper. I am using the new ultegra BR-R8170 calipers, which length of bolts do I need for the C & C2 bolts? I will be running a 140mm disc rotor so I am not using the adapter at the rear.

Trek frames are 25mm thick which works with the bolts shimano includes.

I thought the frame was bigger close to the seatstays. So I thought a needed a bigger C bolt. Thanks for the clarification Fisherfreerider!

Can anyone confirm what is the maximum wheel tyre combo they have managed to squeeze on an Emonda? I’ve found options for wheels with a 30mm external. Will this be ok along with a tyre around 30-32mm

What's the internal width of the rim? More important than external. I run my Emonda with a 23mm internal width rim + 28mm Schwalbe Pro One TLE tyres, which are cca. 29.6mm on these rims. Plenty of clearance remaining, 30c tyres would fit easily.

Trek specs 28mm max for Emonda but with 6mm gap on each side. Usually the stated max tire width is quoted with 4mm gap. I would say 32mm real width tire is the reasonable max for you. It depends on the tire but on Conti tires I would expect you can achieve that with 28C tires on such a wide rim. Some other tires it might be with 30C. I wouldn't try 32C on a 24mm internal width rim, it might expand to 34 and more...

Hi Trekkers,

I just want to share my experience with the MY21 Emonda SLR with the latest Bontrager RCS Pro stem.

The reach of the Aeolus RSL cockpit is too long for me, so I’ve been looking for a better solution. Not only does it need to have a shorter reach, but it must also look good.
I noticed that the 2024 version of the Emonda SL is equipped with the latest Bontrager RCS Pro stem. It actually looks great, and I can use any handlebar I like or easily change the stem length.


Waht you need to buy:
1. Trek 2024 Emonda SL6 & SL7 Headset Cover
Part number: W5319729

2. Trek Road Integrated Stem Headset Cable Routing Spacer (10mm&5mm)
Part number: 5296905、5296906

3. Trek Madone Gen 7 Headset Split Ring
Part number: W563834

4. Trek RCS Pro Blendr Stem
Part number: 5274583

I think you can order those items from local Trek shop.

Two things want to mention.

1. Color difference
Trek only provides the painted headset cover, so you will need to find a painting shop to customize it to match your bike's color. My Emonda's color is Project One Ruby Chroma, and I believe a normal painting shop cannot handle it. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to find a plastic chrome plating manufacturer in Taiwan.

The right one is the stock headset cover, and the left one is after plastic chrome plating.

2. Split Ring
According to the discussion on Reddit, the new split ring is necessary, and it is different from the stock Emonda split ring. However, I can’t see any difference between them.

The left one is the stock split ring, and the right one is the new split ring. Both the inner and outer diameters are the same, so I guess it is not a necessary part?

Than you can install them finally.


In addition, I use the Giant Contact SLR D-Fuse (MY24 DEFY & AVAIL) handlebar. It fits the RCS Pro stem perfectly, with the central hole fully exposed when installed on the RCS Pro stem, allowing for perfect internal cable routing.


By the way, the Giant Contact SLR Aero (MY23 Propel) handlebar does not fit the RCS Pro stem, as the central hole will not be exposed. I tried.

Of course, the FSA ACR headset spacer or a third-party cockpit with a 3D-printed spacer can also provide a clean and stylish installation. Choose what you like best.
