(MY2020-2023) Giant TCR Advanced announced

I did something similar on a Defy build - I didn't like the stem/spacers/cover on the previous generation of the Defy, and I wanted to run a Contact SLR, as it was loads lighter and, to my eye, looked a lot better too.
I needed to modify one spacer to match with the headset cover, but other than that, it all worked well and provided a smooth finish.
The reason for the modification was that the headset cover on the newer TCRs (1 gen removed from the newest full-internal model) had a rise at the back (see image below) to integrate smoothly with the curve at the back of each headset spacer, which in turn perfectly matched the curve of the stem.
Assuming the cockpit you want won't have a curve at the back of the stem, you'd presumably need to modify two spacers - one to flatten its bottom to work with your headset cover, and a second to flatten its top to match with the stem... and that's assuming the stem would have a bit of an extension after the bolts to match up with the extension of the headset spacers.
That would also mean running at least 15mm of spacers, in order to have space for the sanding / shaping needed.
Honestly, it may be easier if the cockpit company has their own headset spacers, which are made to match the profile of their stem clamp area.

That dust cover should fit on your top bearing just the same as any other year of TCR.

That still doesn't mean that the newer TCR spacers would match up with the bar you're buying though - perhaps I misread, but I thought you were originally asking about an intergrated, one-piece bar-stem set-up. If you're using the Giant stem, then you're going to be solid - should look just like the image in the previous post.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you'd be okay with must top covers on a frame that usually takes a standard round one. If it sits a bit too low, then you can alway add some micro spacers on top of the bearing, or sand a little off the bottom if it sits a bit proud. I have a 2021 rim brake TCR SL and, when I first got it, I ran a Canyon onepiece bar with its matching top cover, and it looked okay. I later bought Giant's own one piece bar, which matched the top cover and spacers supplied with the frameset. From what I can see, I think the 2021 top cover would fit okay on an earier TCR (although mine is OD2).

Honnestly, do you think it is really worth it (aside going 25mm to 28mm) to uprade from giant TCR advanced 2018 to 2024 ?
I only understand :
- Disc brakes that allowed to move to wider tires
- Maybe stiffer Carbon ?
- Integrated cables so 2W saves ? I can work to make cables tidiers
- but maily it seems to be the "same" bikes. I was on a shop this week-end and was not impressed by new models.. They have a nice paintjob but not very much more
I don't race with this bike, I do triathlon and have a speedmax. But I train a lot on my TCR, rides with friends, and in the Alps in France during summer.
I understand that the market will move to disc brakes and I will struggle to find parts (Groupset, Wheelsets, ..) in 2 to 4 years. So I still hesitate between invest 1500€ to upgrade bike (New wheels + change some parts that are to much used) and keep it 2-3 years more. Or just change my bike now. But it is like 5000€ (4000 + 1200) for wheels.
I ordered some parts and I will send pictures after modifications !

Rim brake parts will still be available for a long time yet - it's nice to upgrade but it's not as though replacement rim brake parts will disappear.
I actually prefer 25s on my rim brake TCR, which can accomodate 30s no problem. 25s (WAM 26-27) fit nicely on my rim brake wheelsets are are optimal for weight. I also ride disc brake road bikes with tyres ranging from 28-40 mm and think the advantages of wider tyres are hugely exaggerated. In my (probably minority) opinion, it's not worth spending $$$ on a new disc bike just to get wider tyres unless you keep getting pinch flats from hitting pot holes. For road use, I believe the sweetspot for tyre width is around 27-31 WAM, which can be accomodated by many rim brake bikes too. Yes, disc brakes have many advantages over rim brakes, but they're by no means a necessity and have drawbacks of their own. Any long term reviews? Any real world weights? I feel like I haven't heard much since release. There's an Opal frameset in my size I'm tempted to pull the trigger.
