Yes, disengages, because the metal which keeps the chain link in place has been deformed, or worn by removing/re-attaching the link. Quick link failure occurs when tension in the chain is released and the link slips due to wear. If this happens the chain comes off.
That's why I never reuse quick links, too chicken.
This is why most links are single use, yet they do not 'expire' in use.
I understand reusable links have a stronger, engagement/disengagement area, so deformation is lessened and you can remove and reattach the link a few times.
