Yeah I just scored a pair of Riot TR+ (I always wanted to try a Tri shoe :) ) for $90. shipped.
I expect a few "bakes" and tweaks before they fit ( ref.: HUGE BOnt thread here lol !)

I read through that whole thing and a few threads in other places. It seems like: if they work...they really work and you love them OR they're terrible medieval torture devices. Not much in between.

So I figured I'd try the Riot+ and if they work, I'll step up to the Vaypor or Helix and if they don't, I'm only out a hundo.

I found the Vaypor to transfer way too much buzz/vibrations to my feet...thin hyper stiff sole wasn't a good combo for me.

Not just me then.. Short rides in the Vapour+ feels like my feet got hit repeatedly with a cricket bat.

Received these beauties today. (Mavix Cosmic Ultimate III)
  • Yes they look amazing
  • I can't say I've had the same "wow" feeling as when I put my Fizik R1 for the first time
The fiziks are old now, but they feel like slippers, probably more comfortble than any of my shoes/sneakers. I wonder if that is because the sole formed around my foot and so did the leather top with time.

Not sure if I should keep the mavic and simply get new R1's. Maybe I just have a Fizik feet...

And for others to have a point of comparison:
- My feet are 26.1cm and 10.4cm at the widest
- Fizik R1's are 43 or US 9-3/4
- Mavic Cosmic Ultimate 3 are 42-2/3 or US 9

Foot length feels the same for both, with a little bit of room for the toes, just right. But the Mavics are just tighter / pressing on the top of the mid-foot (I have a pretty high/prominent navicular bone).

I've ridden with Mavic Cosmic SLs for about a year and like them alot. I tried the Fizik R1 but thought they lacked padding in some areas - the Mavic despite being quite a bit lighter had better padding around the heel and tonque. The only trouble with the Sls is that the top has stretched somewhat around the vents and so fit isn't a good as before. Tried with Mavic warranty to address this, but they are useless with their reorganization. Won't answer claims and their phone goes right to voicemail...
I'm interested in the III with the 2nd boa dial - how does the padding around the heel/tongue look/compare to the Fizik?

As Mavic are getting out of shoes I'd be wary of buying in case of issues down the line.

Just purchased a pair of black Shimano RC902. Hoping they provide adequate arch support.

Interesting feedback, thanks.

The padding looks pretty good actually, slightly better than the R1s I'd say

I'm in between wearing them a bit to see how they fit down the road, once the sole has formed arround my foot. And returning them for some R1s... tough choice

Also on another note. How has there been since the Infinito R1's design has been renewd? Is there plans to renew it anytime soon?

Between Shimano and Lake, Lake would be widest if you go with their models with the 'competition last'. Not sure how Specialized compares.

In my experience between owning a few pairs of Shimano and trying on a few pairs of Specialized in the shop, Shimano are definitely wider.

Well, the stack height is so thin. You can afford to use some thicker insoles to cushion it up. Something like Specialized BG insoles.
