Here's another couple of pics of the Rapha road knit shoe from Cycling Tips...

Still not ready to switch away from Bont. (I "down-graded" from their new Helix to Vaypor S this season.)

The purples look nice... 260gr per shoe is a on the heavy side for a knit shoe though isn't it?

260g seems...very high. Specialized Exos are ~150g/shoe

I suppose you're right. The Giro E70 knits are close to these, 250g or so. I guess it really all depends on how these end up being priced. The Exos are considerably more expensive than the Giros and how rapha's shoes have been priced in the past.

At a certain point though, with weights in the mid-200s I struggle to see the point of owning them. They look nice and I guess they'd work well if you live in a consistently hot environment, but they're not really particularly light compared to non-knit alternatives. My Fizik infinito R1s are leather and ~230g. If I'm buying a knit shoe, presumably weight is a consideration for me.

Weight simply is not a major consideration for me when trying shoes.

To each his own. And obviously comfort and fit are going to be hugely important when considering any shoe.

My point was simply that if you're looking for a shoe with a knit upper, there are probably only two real reasons to do that. Either you live in a warm climate or otherwise have issues with your feet overheating, or you're looking to shed weight.

Could be I'm looking through that lens because it's something I'm considering as the next logical step in my WW journey. I'm running out of weight to reasonably drop off the bike, but my shoes are still 230g a piece. Which means I can drop ~160g off my total system weight with an option like the Exos. Which is pretty considerable. Every time I see a new knit shoe launch I hope that another company is going to challenge specialized on weight, but sadly it hasn't happened yet.

Knit uppers aren’t even light compared to reinforced polymer/textiles or even modern microfiber synthetic leather. They’re seamless and flexible for comfort. That’s the selling point.
