I was thinking the same thing. I honestly can't recall the last time I had a full carbon fork that had a metal race. Maybe my '05 Tarmac, but definately nothing with a tapered steerer. They've all had a ~45º taper built into the crown for the lower bearing. .
for what it's worth, two of my bikes have metal crown races set onto the fork.

Yea, in all fairness, I've had a limited number of bikes since that 05 Tarmac. A Giant, a Specialized a Trek and a Cervelo, and all of them have been '15 or newer.

here is a pic of the fork sans crown race installed. Not sure what would indicate a crown race is not needed? I also tried to get a close up to show the alloy steerer does start with a slight angle up from fork race to the steerer... though the stock headset does include a crown race.
stock headset:

the pic of this headset does seem to show that the lower bearing is angled on the outside diameter and does appear to be angled also on the inside/bottom of the bearing. seems like it should fit perfectly?

Yes for sure somehow you got the wrong bearings sent to you
The pic you show of a stock headset shows the outer bevels which tells you yours are wrong regardless
of not being able to see the inner race on the stock headset picture
What you need to also know is inside your headtube on your frame is tapered to fit that bevel you see
on the stock bearing photo
If you were to force this square edged bearing into your frame you will likely create another problem

agreed, it's pretty obvious looking at the stock headset that the FSA headset is not compatible. I did check the headtube and it is indeed angled. Though I did not force anything in there. should have it in hand tomorrow and will install it after work.... fingers crossed.

For what its worth I have ordered FSA Orbit integrated bearing headsets before where the upper bearing is correct, and the lower bearing is not even angular contact. Like a giant wheel bearing. Not sure whats up with that, but I think it applies here. That lower bearing in OP's pic is not an ACB headset bearing.

Success... the new headset came through. Everything looks much better now with the gap looking as it should. The lower bearing was definitely wrong even by the sellers diagram.
Thanks all for the knowledge!
