Light frame with "classic" looks?
Moderator: robbosmans
I would like to buy a light frame with a "classic" look, i.e., no oversized tubes and no (or only slightly) sloping top tube.
Moreover, the frame should have a threaded BB (BSA?) and be suited for rim brakes. I also prefer a "non-straight" fork.
All the light frames I found so far have downtubes which have a wider diameter than my arms.
I also have a problem with wide top tubes: because I have a "narrow" build my legs hit/touch those while pedaling.
Stiffness isn't really important for me: I weigh 56kg and have a really low power output of about 220W/600W (FTP, max).
(I probably forgot some other criteria, sorry.)
Here are some examples for bikes I don't like due to the size of (some of) their tubes: (I found those bikes listed as "Top 7 climber bikes" somewhere): Cannondale SuperSix Evo, Canyon Ultimate CF SLX, Specialized Tarmac, Fuji SL 1.1, Cervelo R5.
Example of a bike I like: Time VXRS.

Off the top of my head, have a look at argon 18. Recently saw one in a shop window and it looked pretty slim for a modern bike, while the top tube had little slope.

As for bsa, that might limit you a lot...
Find an old Time frame in mint condition. It will be way cheaper than anything new.
New Time Alpe d'Huez?
Sarto? Many of their frames have a classic look.

+1 on Time Alpe d'Huez, if you want a contemporary frame
At your weight, a Time VXRS or a Colnago C50 (or EPS) or a Parlee Z1 would also perform great and these frames are the classiest carbon frames you can find.

Plenty of Parlee Z1/2/3 used on eBay or forums for < $2K USD.

Ridley helium slx should tick all those boxes. Had one and loved the bike

Nevermind. Looks like the modern helium has a press fit bb and a straight fork
Thanks for the suggestions. So far I like
- Sarto -- Seta seems to be their lightest frame?
- Parlee Z zero / Z1
The Colnago (C50) and Calfee (Dragonfly?) seem to be a bit heavy (>900g for just the frame?).
I don't like the looks of the other frames suggested sofar, sorry;
just a personal preference -- I want to have a bike which I like and hence makes me
want to go for a ride even more than just the nice weather and area :-)

Does it have to be a threaded BB? There is nothing wrong with any type of pressfit/bb30/Bbright, e.t.c. Just need to make sure you fit a decently quality BB and it’s installed correctly. This would open more doors with regards to frame choices....Cervélo R5, Supersix EVO, Parlee z5sl to name a few.
A threaded BB it not a "must" but a "nice to have" -- it must be possible to use a Campagnolo crankset (ultra-torque) -- without any "heavy" extra hardware.
I have a Cannondale Supersix Evo and I don't like it: the top tube is too wide (and the down tube is too big).
A Cervelo RCA is kind of interesting, but also doesn't look the way I like it -- too bad.
