Hello Folks

Long time lurker, first time poster. Great forum- thanks to the community for all your wisdom- I've enjoyed and learned a lot here. Still lots more to learn!

So I've just bought a S-Works Tarmac SL6 frame to build up. To avoid any potential creaking, I'd like to install a Hambini bottom bracket. Cranks are Rotor Aldhu 24mm.

Can anyone suggest which Hambini BB and if this will run ok or any compatibility issues?

TIA

I think you need a BB30 to Shimano. SL6 is BB30. I believe rotor said their 24mm Aldhu is a direct replacement to Shimano. Hambini has bearing to bearing measurements on his website which should provide a definitive answer

Thanks for that. Forgive my ignorance (the last time I installed a bottom bracket it had a cotter pin and BB creaks were solved with a hammer).

What should I check the Hambini bearing to bearing measurement against to ensure compatability?

U may want to consider bbinfinite bottom bracket with ceramic tech bearings

The SL6 has bonded in BB30 cups with the actual BB interface being a narrow PF30. It's possible to cut out the bonded in cups for a lighter option with a 1 piece from hambini of BBInfinite.
I would contact either before ordering.

30mm cranks would be lighter.
I recommend the steel bearings as they wear with the races.

Sadly, I have recent information on this topic. I originally had a Praxis BB on my S-Works SL6. The Praxis model is closer to a threaded system (I think), in that there's an aluminum shell that fits inside the axle aperture, with the other side scewed in. Not threaded but more protection (not quite the word for which I'm looking, but close) for the entire system

https://praxiscycles.com/product/conv-bb-sram-gxp-road/

I switched to a cbear bottom bracket, which is similar but lighter and, I think, not quite as protective. Now, about a year later and perhaps 3,000 miles in, I'm experiencing noticeable creaking. Damn you PF critics, this time you're right! (To be fair to me, my previous three bikes were threaed.)

Hopefully switching back to the Praxis will help. Anyway, if hambini has solved the problem, I'd go with him.

Hambini BB30 to shimano will work perfect. His measurements / production is more perfect than anything I've seen. If Rotor is a direct replacement to shimano the crank will fit PERFECT to his BB. He's super helpful so shoot him an email to check with him first if you wanna be 100% sure.

I've had Hambini BB's in 4 different bikes. That's how much I love them.

LOL @ BBInfinite suggestion. Not sure if it was sarcastic.

Thanks- I've seen your SL6 posts (nice build). Are you still running NTN BB on your SL6 or have you switched to Hambini?

I have a Rotor 3D (24mm) crank on my Canyon that directly replaced an Ultegra crank, I think the ALDHU cranks work the same way.

Did you even click and read the link you posted?
It reads "If you have a 2015 and up bike with cups epoxied-in, and you have a 30mm spindle crank, click here." Which link to REGULAR BB30 bottom bracket.
Tarmac 2015 and older have 61mm narrow bb.
Newer Tarmac, including SL6 is regular width 68mm wide. The carbon shell is already 68mm wide. Not 61mm narrow like old OSBB.

Also, look at what you call bonded cup. Do you think that is removable?

Noted and yes I did read both. Specialized OSBB is kind of a cluster *f##k*. A good percentage of specialized bike use the narrow bb with bonded cups. My 2017 roubaix did and I removed them.

At the moment I'm running WMFG. I have switched to DuraAce crankset and sold the S-works one so no BB30 for me. NTN's did work awesome for me though for sure.
Unfortunately Hambini hasn't had the black BB30 > Shimano one in stock for a while (should check again it's been a couple weeks)
I'll 100% be switching to Hambini on this bike too very soon. (Although there's a chance I might sell the frame to someone who really wants an ultralight frame. I'm entertaining the idea of a wildly colored SL6 next ;) )
