For anyone interested, Hylix seatpost -131 grams, so 60 gram saving on OEM and about 25 grams heavier than Darimo.

I have had a few Hylix seatpost as over the years and, without tempting fate, this one looks to be the best quality to date.

The carbon seems uniform and well finished. The saddle cradle looks ‘handmade’ and the top clamp section looks specifically engineered for the job (-(and the bolts are pretty light).

Ordinarily I end up changing bolts for lighter ones and using yolks, but i saved about 1gram and the bits supplied look high quality so didn’t bother.

For anyone wondering, the 129g Hylix seatpost has been discontinued and replaced with a 136g version. When I asked the reason why, they stated it was to add some carbon in areas.
I recieved mine today - quality looks very good though it's 142g rather than the advertised 136g. I haven't weighed the hardware seperately but wonder if there is much weight to be saved there.
Have you fitted it yet? And are you using the torque spec settings advised by the seller?

I have not fitted it yet - I've had some other stuff going on between work and kids sports and have had just enough time to ride and not enough to tweak with the bike much. I'm slowly gathering the stuff for a new crank too.

R9 carbon vs. R12 carbon (Sport frame vs. S-Works frame)
I know there will be a weight penalty but will I feel a difference in ride quality or stiffness?

Absolutely not. I'd imagine it'd be like trying to notice a 1 psi difference in tyre pressure.
If at all !

The answer directly from Specialized is, No... you should not feel a difference. Specialized designs bike frames to hit targets in ride quality and stiffness. Based on what they say, a 9R bike should feel and ride the same as a 12R bike.... the difference is that due to the quality differences in carbon, they can use less 12R carbon to build a frame to hit the targeted ride quality and stiffness as compared to 9R carbon, so the 12R carbon frame is lighter.

That's the corporate answer.

Now, the answer you'll probably hear from any number of people on this board or a FB group or any other forum is that 100% there's a difference. Ride quality and stiffness are very subjective and EVERYONE feels them differences and has different tolerances for what is good and bad. Additionaly, we're talking specifically about frames, but ride quality and stiffness can be effected by tires, air pressure, the actual fit of the bike (a bike with more spacers won't feel as stiff as a bike that is slammed), the seatpost chosen, the saddle model chosen etc.... so comparing two bikes is often very difficult because it can hard to get ALL the other factors to match exactly. The simple fact that the SWorks 12R carbon bike is lighter can sometimes give people a difference in feel because the light bike is easier to toss around, so it feels stiffer.

I used to have a 1st gen. Venge Pro... that was 10R carbon frame. One of my good riding buddies had an SWorks 12R carbon Venge, same year. Our bikes were set up almost exactly the same, with minor variances in fit. My bike was actually slightly lighter in weight, but riding them back to back, it was impossible to tell them apart.

Thanks!

How well do 32mm (WAM) tires fit into the SL7?
How much clearance is to the frame/fork?

I have a set of 700x30 Vittoria Corsa pro tires on 25mm internal width rims, they measure 33.5mm WAM and I have a 4mm clearance gap all around the fork and the same in the rear frame.

I also have a set of 700x32 pathfinder pros on 21mm internal width rims, they measure 34.2mm WAM, the gap also appears to be 4mm all around. The Di2 cable front the derailleur comes a little close so I had to use a zip tie to keep it really tucked in, but the clearance is good all around.

Direct mount is only for Shimano; it replaces part of the rear mech, the b-link. SRAM are not compatible with direct mount hangers.

So I should just keep the original one?
