Weight with garmin mount, pedals and cages was 7.5 kilos. Running conti 5000 clinchers 25 in front and 28 in rear. I was running Vittoria TPUs but got a pinch flat up front on my first ride so going to give ridenow tubes a try.
[Edit] It is an ultegra build but I did source the 54-40 dura ace chainring for flat Florida riding.
I want to get a 54/40 chainring but cant find them anywhere!

Yeah he built it up for me. Thank I appreciate it, I am really happy with how it turned out. Backcountry had three of them two weeks ago, I am not sure if they survived black friday though.

What kind of power numbers are needed for rings that big? I don't think I could ever use those. I'm still on 50/34 at around 340W FTP. I'm also a big guy at 85kg so a less impressive FTP and likely won't ever get strong enough to go bigger.

I really don't think FTP has as much to do with it as efficiency. I live in Florida where it is flat, so I really need more smaller gears not large ones. I guess if I were in the mountains I would have kept the 52/36 or gone smaller. I came from a 53/39 crankset with a 10 speed 11-25 cassette so this is pretty close to those ranges. I find it very useful for fast flat rides with room to go for the sprint. Your FTP is higher than mine but I never find myself wishing for easier gearing. That said I also do not find myself in 54-11 (or previously 53-11) very often.LanceLegstrong wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 5:24 pmWhat kind of power numbers are needed for rings that big? Yea I suppose it'll depend on where you're living. I don't have long climbs but almost zero flat area, it's mostly rolling with shorter 5-8min climbs that are very steep (>15%) so I need the extra gears. I'm running 50/34 and 11-32t. I just don't think I could handle bigger gearing for my area unless I grind along. I also prefer a faster cadence 90-100 so I prefer the easier gears I can spin. The one downside is that im getting close to spinning out the 50-11t in all out sprints.MilesG813 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 5:55 pmI really don't think FTP has as much to do with it as efficiency. Thanks, trying to look now but cant see just chainrings.
I am 317 ftp but as said its about your terrain, i am in scotland so lots of rolling terrain, i have 53/39 on my cervelo so just want to get back what i was used to.LanceLegstrong wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 5:24 pmWhat kind of power numbers are needed for rings that big? Been tempted with Carbon Ti route but want ot keep the good smooth gear changing.
That has a surprising level of impact. I've got a clubmate who is an ex-bodybuilder (the performative type with the steroids and all that). I'm a slightly stronger rider but I'm all cardio and he's all muscle. He turns something like 82rpm doing a sweet spot effort whilst I'm doing mid-tempo at 95rpm riding side by side with him. He's got 53/39 or bigger on all his bikes and my biggest chainset is 52/36 but I'll also happily go out with road wheels on my gravel bike at 48/31 and ride the same pace/terrain as him. I'm also the lighter rider, so if terrain was going to force one of us to gear down it should be him.LanceLegstrong wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 6:37 pmI also prefer a faster cadence 90-100 so I prefer the easier gears I can spin.

Hello guys, could you recommend me some good deals on tarmac sl7 framesets in size 54cm from Europe? I Can have a have one in spectral gray/dove gray color for under 4000 euros from a local bike shop, but there are colours i would prefer more... So if you know about anything interesting in the same price range feel free to share...i really like color schemes with raw Carbon or sth like dequeniq quickstep colors, but cant find anything in my size with similar price.. thanks
