Giro empire. I love them. But apparently tgis year they are going wider. Hopefully they do narrow/wide options.

Struggling to find something that fits as well as my Sub 6 shoes. I’ve tried the Sub 7 but I’m just fed up of buying outrageous Spesh shoes which last zero time.

My current lineup is:
Fizik R1B 46 - touch too big and wide
Sub 6 - 46 perfect
Sidi Wires - 46 good but will go 45.5
Bont Vaypor - 46 - too wide (could try narrow fit)

Anybody else got a good narrow shoe, was thinking lakes but can’t find anybody that stocks them round here.

Hmm.

I wear a 45 in Empire SLX and 44.5 in every other Giro shoe including the models introduced two years ago like the Prolight Techlace and Factor Techlace. I wear a 44.5 Imperial and would bet I’d wear a 44.5 “new” Empire SLX.

I sized up in the old Empires because they were too short, not because they weren’t wide enough. The good thing about Giro shoes is they’re so easy to try on...nearly everyone stocks them.

I tried on 3 pairs of factor techlaces, all the same size (42.5). Two pairs fit the same and the third fit completely differently; tighter than a 42 around the midfoot.
Giro sizing is inconsistent even in the same model.

Could have been that someone put a more supportive insert on the "SuperNatural" footbeds. But sure, always try before you buy for that reason...especially for shoes and pants/shorts.

I'm tempting myself with Gaerne of DMT, now it's been mentioned here that Gaerne are a good narrow fit.

Any views on DMT?

DMT are wider for sure. Gaerne's quality is better IME (have/had shoes from both).

Try the Sidi Ergo. I have a large size 13, but low volume foot. It was impossible to find a shoe that wasn't too roomy outside the Sidi brand. It's as if the manufacturers assume that if your foot is long it's also caveman wide. I use the ergo and the Wire. The wire is close but still has room unless I crank it down, and it got beter over time. The Ergo is narrower and has a better last with more arch. Some brands and models I've tried that were terrible for narrow feet or just flat and crappy - Giro, DMT, Spec, Giordana, Sidi Genius...

And I don't know how people aside Fred Flintstone use Bonts. Might as well screw cleats into a pair of Crocs. Just fooliong around guys so don't get bent.

The last comment on Bonts here got me, completely agree. I loved the stiffness and build quality of bonts but the width was just silly and I had standard. Trying to get the narrow ones seems pretty damn hard at the moment.

My Sidi Wires are great, I use them for winter rides or rides where I’m doing a bit more coffee stop/full days in the saddle. My S Works Sub6 are used for most other stuff but falling out of love with Spesh daily.

I’ve just got a deal on some Giro Factor Techlaces, I’m hoping that with the closure system they could work better than my SLXs did. It’s wishful thinking but for £95 new it’s worth a try and can return if they don’t fit.

I can believe this, tried to get some Stilo+ but price wise I can’t get below £220 on them in my size and white.

My motocross Gaernes are still going strong after 8 years and can’t fault the quality... of the Giros don’t work out I’ll go for some I think.

I barely had any visible wire left on my Factor Techlace Boa, but it worked ok. Oddly I didn't need to cinch down the two techlaces very much, especially the frontmost one.

@welchy. Have you tried s-works 7s in the narrow fit? That is what I am using now.

So, got a very good deal on these and I am very very happy. Rode today and they were fantastic, put the higher arch support in and dialled them up and a completely different fit to the empire slx in the same size. Very happy and length perfect in 46 for my UK 11 feet..

They are super good to put on too..
