I am running a set of Roval CLX64 wheels on my Venge. I currently running a 23mm Cont. GP4000 on the front. From a speed perspective (aero and rolling resistance) which tire would be the fastest for the front?
24mm Turbo Cotton with a latex tube
25mm Continental GP5000 TL
23mm Continental GP4000 II with latex tube (current)

How wide are the rims at the brake track, and what's the internal width? You want the tire to be narrower than the brake track for best aero.
This should be your reference for sure.. I use 28MM Turbo Cottons, from a ride persepctive very very good..Squashednuts wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2019 9:29 amYou can check out rolling resistance on this site

For a fastest set up, I would use Turbo Cotton 24mm on the front and 26mm on the rear with latex tube.Kvnmil13 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2019 2:10 amI am running a set of Roval CLX64 wheels on my Venge. For a fast set up with a little more punture resistence, I would run GP 5000 25mm on the front and 28mm on the rear.
What makes you think the Turbo Cotton is faster than the 5000 TL?

SystemSix (sold) | 8.01kg
P5 Disc | heavy but fast

I'm thinking the 23 GP4000 will end up being the same as a 25 5000TL aero/width wise.. so go with a 25 5000TL.

5000TL is faster than 5000, and 5000 is faster than turbo cotton.

GP5000 25c is more aero than GP4000 23c though they are at a very similar width on the wheel.

The question isnt just about crr though. People have gotten so obsessed with BRR results now that they seem to be forgetting how many watts can be given back through a bad tire:rim interface.
BRR is definitely one of your key resources - this series is the other

Edit: I would definitely not make the claim that a 25mm 5000 is faster than a 23mm 4000 in the wind tunnel based off a test on a single, shallow alloy wheel...
My choice would be the Turbo Cotton or maybe a 5000 with latex. I expect the former to ride and handle a lot better, as well as have the lower cda, the latter will probably have the lowest crr

As part of my service, my tyres needed replacing and I swapped to 28 Turbo Cottons. I think they left the original Turbo Ultralight tubes. I've now had a flat and realised that the Ultralights are only suitable up to 25. Not sure whether it would have resulted in the flat or not.
At the time of writing this I was using Vitorria Latex tubes, now I'm on Silca. I've got rid of the turbo cottons, as good as they were they just cut up far far too easily (the rear). I've gone onto Veloflex 28s and now Conti GP5000s. The veloflexs feel harsher, I used the Vitorria Corsa 28s after which were great but heavy, now I'm on GP5000s. All of the above with Latex. I can't fault the GPs apart from the obvious not feeling as supple..xylar wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 11:15 amWhat are you using for your tubes?welchy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2019 12:14 pmThis should be your reference for sure.. I have Tubolito's and the 64's w/Turbo S. I only have Cotton's on the 32's.

You can't compete with Cotton's suppleness and feel. Match them with Latex or Aerothan tubes and you've got an insanely fast and comfortable combo with the 64s
