We all knew it was coming. Also another reason for Trek to quickly ditch BB90 on all road bikes since it's easier to mess with chainlines up front without using offset rings or specially stanced cranks.

What don't you like about it besides backward compatibility issues?

From my point of view, there are two reasons I don't like it:

1. Higher Q factor
2. I ride heels-in toes-out, and increasing the rear spacing makes it more likely that my heels hit the chainstays when pedalling. Even with 130mm rear spacing, I've encountered some frames with breezer dropouts that I can't ride because of this problem, particularly ones with short chainstays.

This is usually caused by excessive pronation. Have you considered correcting this with more supportive orthotics?

What other body parts should we be modifying in order to accommodate another industry standard.?.......

This isn’t about accommodating anything but his own physiology. Presumably he doesn’t walk duck-footed. He also runs into issues with some 130mm spaced bikes, but acknowledging that doesn’t fit your narrative. Now I don’t think road Boost will necessarily make it to performance road bikes, but if it does go that far it will be accompanied by a widening at the BB too. If 5mm of additional stance-width is something you can’t deal with, then 135mm (142mm) OLD options will continue to exist indefinitely.

Fitters usually say narrow stance-width isn’t that important and that many people would actually benefit biomechanically from increasing theirs.

I've been using custom orthotics in cycling shoes for more than 40 years...

Oh well then. If you don’t think you can fix it after 40 years, then whatever. Just keep in mind that the vast majority of cyclists don’t have your idiosyncratic pedal stance.

Ha! That you even feel that a footnote explaining you’re being sarcastic may be necessary for some is indicative of just how ridiculous things have become in the industry. Image
