Too bad that GT isn’t anodized purple!

I had a Klein pulse from that era. XT drivetrain with a lot of purple anodized bits. Great bike but my mtb days are long behind me.

It was. Those Rapidfires where the best Shimano ever made, and the RD was the last one that is decently reliable against parallelogram arm bending and the subsequent havoc.

And that split cage FD!

Well, actually the 950 BB was quite a disaster (both versions but specially the BB-950) and the cranks were nowhere as prone to cracks as today’s but still not very strong towards fatigue. The inner surface quality of the hollow arms was rubbish.

I thought you meant Grand Tuourismo bike, like a GT car. You know, so a Bentley GT, or an S Class Coupe, or even better a front engine Ferarri, like a GTC.

I think of my Altum R as a GT car, and my SL6 as a racer. Built that way too, the Altum is mechanical, while the SL6 eTap flappy paddle rubbish.
