Hi All,

I am usually across the hall at paceline, but with my interest in the Bianchi Specialissima, I have come over here to seek some knowledge/experience on this bike. I am looking hard for a 55cm Bianchi Specialissima frameset (used if I can find one) but I have run into a sizing confusion. I read some previous posts here on the Specialissima sizing which were helpful but not conclusive. am 178cm tall, 85cm inseam. My current bike is a 2008 LOOK 585 Large where the stack and reach seem to be right in between a Specialissima 55 and 57 stack and reach. If I am inbetween, my inclination is to go for the smaller frameset. Any assistance or experience with sizing on this bike? Thank you!

Just a ballpark guess, not having seen you on a bike, but with your height and inseam, I'd suggest a 55. A 57 would be proportionally quite long (Bianchi racing frames also tend to be somewhat long and low). I'm guessing you usually fall in between medium and large frames (or 54/56 traditional sizing).

There are a lot of variables with fit, so take all of that with a grain of salt, as they say.

I am 184 and was perfect on 57. So roughly 55 for you.

Hoping you'll find this gem. SigmaSport.com had a sale beginning of the year on this frameset ($2,600-2,800). You should check it out anway.
This is one of the BEST bike I've ever owned. I've ridden and sold off many framesets, but I'll keep this bike forever. I got mine from a local shop owner for a pretty damn good deal.

The Specialissima tends to have a longer reach than other Bianchi framesets (longer than even the Oltre IIRC), so I think it's one of the safer frames to go for a smaller frame. I'm 180cm tall with a similar inseam and I ride a 53cm alternating between a 110-120mm stem. I think you could do the 55cm with a 120mm stem, but that's just a guess. Depending on your flexibility, you may need a few spacers though to compensate for a higher seatpost. I've ridden 57cm frames (way too large) and 55cm frames as well. The 55cm was supremely comfortable for me, but I had to use a 90-100m stem which felt unstable at high speeds, and I had little to no drop which put me in a very non-aero position on the hoods unless I really bent my elbows. But boy was it comfortable! FWIW, I know people nearly exactly my size who also ride a 55cm Specialissima with absolutely no problems. I'm certainly not any faster on a 53cm than a 55cm, but I do find that my "default" position on the 53cm is much more aero, and I look much cooler with the bigger drop and aggressive aero positions (but my back/shoulders start hurting after 2.5 hours or so) :) If my goal was just to cruise around and put in the miles on beautiful terrain without much consideration for speed or serious training, it would be 55cm easy for me...

It's a lovely bike and I hope you find what you're looking for!

I was only looking on the Epic cycles website last night re the Bianchi.
If you look at the 57cm geo, its similar to the look 585 L (which i ve got kicking around in a L) so the 57 has a 160 HT and 56 TT, the 55 is 145 and 55.

the Look 585 is 56 and 156 but has a tall top cap as std, so i would be on the 57.

Just noticed your height and inseam, which are 5cm and 2cm respectively less than mine, if you think the look is too big, than the 55 is the way to go.

Thanks each of you for the info. I was leaning to 55cm and now I feel more confident that it will work. I've been looking for better part of a year. There was a great deal on a used 57cm but now I know I have to be patient for a 55. The search continues!
