SL6 Tarmac and SRAM Red Crankset (BB30)

Hello all- I have a 2018 s-works SL6 tarmac and have been running SRAM Red crankset GXP with wheels manufacturing adapters to fit.

I just bought a BB30 version of the same crankset. The sram manual says I need the preinstalled Preload Adjuster & 4.84 mm spacer on the NDS, and a 13mm spacer on the DS. Seems excessive. Wonder if those instructions were for older more narrow bb. I have the stock Specialized OSBB with ceramicspeed bearings, btw.

Sounds like those are for the 386EVO. On that frame I think you just need the bearing dust covers and a crush washer.

The SRAM Red cranks aren’t a true BB30 crankset anymore. They use a longer spindle to allow them to fit in BB386 frames.

You will need the 13mm spacer on the DS plus any applicable washers to achieve the correct preload on the NDS.

Ah, two different suggestions...

I did a 66 mile ride today with 2.5mm spacer DS, and 2.5mm spacer+preload NDS. Started to feel some pain on the outside of my left knee. Measured the Q factor and am 1/4” more narrow. Not sure if it’s related.

Is the spider on the DS crank arm removable?
