I think another reason was they were supposedly harder to walk in.

Never found that, even going back to TBT. Which really were heavy! There was a spate of cracked cleats on the early i-clics i think, or maybe Xpressos.

Have you tried Time pedals? Especially if you ride a lot that may help you because of their "float" which is much better than the Shimanio floating cleats.
