Where to drop weight?

The guys I ride with that ride a 50 are about 5’5” tall.
Someone 5’5” weighing 160 is no where close to 5% body fat, more than likely not even at 20% body fat.

I always get a chuckle out of people that want a super light bike yet are 20+ pounds overweight

I’m 5’7.” 140 lbs riding a 52 and by no means skin and bones

what? rider of frame size about 50 must be around 5'5?

I might miss the note there being 5'6.5 and riding size 49 almost slammed on race geometry (Allez Sprint). Can't imagine myself using bike any taller.

When you guys comment on bike sizes are you referring to the bike’s size printed on the frame or the effective top tube length? If it’s the former then the number is meaningless without also knowing the top tube slope angle. On many bikes the effective top tube lengths are longer than the printed bike size. When comparing bike sizing one must use the effective top tube length. I doubt Hexsense is riding a bike with an effective top tube length of only 49cm.

You can indeed be 160 lbs and have 5% fat....In the summer I am 149 lbs with 6-6.5% fat.

So currently bike is stock (with pedals,2x carbon cagesx& integrated Garmin mount) at 16lb 8oz. With the above stated upgrades do you think I'll be down to 16.0 or less?

2x supersonic to replace OEM maxxis tubes
2x Gp5000 (25mm) to replace vitoria corsa g+ (25mm)
3T ernova team stealth (40cm) to replace OEM (40cm) handlebar
Deda Traforato bar tape (stated 29g) to replace OEM bar tape
Cut carbon steerer tube by 1 inch

Currently also looking into:
-Hylix 25.4 ebay carbon seat post or Thomson 25.4 seatpost(?) nicer quality but heavier
-what's your fave stem?
-if I get chain slap when riding over bumps, can I simply remove a couple of links?

- Light stem i.e. Deda Superlegerro
- Veloflex Corsa 25mm clincher
- Light carbon seat post i.e. Deda Superlegerro

Currently sitting at 16lbs flat including 2x bottle cages, garmin mount, pedals.

Once i get the handlebar + bar tape on, potentially will be at 15.8lb

Without pedals, gamin mount, bottle cages, probably something around 15.5 lbs

Correct, the sizing number is arbitary. It is size 49 as listed on Specialized.
Top tube length 520mm, Seat tube length=460mm, stack=507, reach=375.
I think i could use a longer frame with shorter stem, but only if the stack isn't much taller. Stack around 520mm-ish is the limit where i'll need ultra thin headset cap (like slamthatstem bearing cover), no spacer and -17 degree stem and no wiggle room to adjust for thinner shoes etc. Therefore, stack around 50x is better that i still use normal-ish size headset cap and still can use a thin spacer to allow adjustments.

So it makes more sense to say you ride a 52. The 49 number is totally meaningless. The effective top tube length is to be used to compare bike sizing across brands.

Well, but your system is problematic in explaining small sizes' height. As the size getting smaller, the height decrease but the top tube length barely decrease.
For example, Cannondale's Supersix's top tube length is 51.2, 52.0, 52.8 for size 44, 48, 51. While the bike is really noticeably smaller on 51.2 (44) than 52 (48). Visually, it's not even close, more like 44 vs 48 than 51.2 vs 52.0.

A taller bike with the same wheelbase length have shorter top tube length... while in practice a taller bike is considered bigger.
A low bike is larger than a taller bike of the same wheelbase length in your top tube length comparison system.
Just compare overall stack height and reach to be in the ball park of each other would be better size indication IMO.
