looking for some chainrings for upcoming build. anyone tried these before and how well do they shift and play with eTap? i see them list a set as 98g, so would be interested to hear some feedbacks.

was optimistic that maybe eTap will play well with QXL, but after emailing with SRAM, figured to look for alternatives. plus it'll be lighter than QXL. :)

A lot of people have complained about shifting performance of Extralite rings on this site. I'm one of the lucky ones! Have used ~4 months combined with eTap and now DuraAce with no issues.
But looking at how many people have had trouble with the shifting I can't confidently recommend them to anyone.

Been using Extralite rings for a year or more, no real problems. Just a quick pause between shifting up and it's fine. Praxis was a lot better, but look ugly and heavier.

mine have been very good... quick pause is correct. I installed a chain catcher for nothing basically :)

so is it accurate on the weight? it seems it's 98g per set? this was the description on starbike site

Medium ratio to complete our road chainrings lineup.
Ratio: 52T + 36T.
Weight: 98g / set.

I just installed these a few weeks ago. 102g according to my scale. The set I put on my English more than a year ago came in at 99g. Both are 52/36. Shifting is great. Both bikes running sram red mechanical. No hills here so I go into the big ring and stay there.

Have these and Quarbon's. No problems with Extralites, but dropped chain three times with Qxl and Di2 because I forgot I wasn't using eTap.

Becaue the ramps are made from aluminum they wear. The only way to have worn extralites upshift is with mechanical gears where the fd cage pressure can be held high and long against the high limit.

If only extralite would upgrade the design with titanium pickup pins so that they work reliably with electronic shifting.

Carbon-ti chainrings ought to work better and they are just a few grams more.

i'm a grinder up the hills.. so thought about those carbon chainrings.. but heard they'll fail? which carbon-ti rings would you suggest?

Lightweight stuff is more fragile. If you've got tons of torque, maybe on the heavier side, long crank arms, then maybe not use lightweight chainrings.

I'm small so I can get away with it. I was thinking of the carborings 50/34.

Let me know how the carborings work out for you. I use 170mm crankarms and usually grind up a 10% hill at 55-60rpm putting out 200-215w or so. I’m also using a 34 small chainring front.

I've been advising my ww friend on electronic shifting to try carborings but he hasn't bought them yet. The extralites didn't work.

I'm myself on extralites because I'm still running mechanical shifting. I'm not racing much either so I don't worry about perfect shifting. It works adequately. No dropped chains.

I saw on another thread you were using fibre lytes previously. I guess you prefer the extralites? Is this with etap?
