Are the wolf tooth water bottle cage bolts the lightest standard bolts to buy?

Seems so from what I've been finding. They are 1 gram per screw and they are aluminum. I see other titanium bolts are heavier at like 1.5 or 1.2 grams per bolt. What's up with that? So are the wolf tooth bolts the best ones to buy?Image

Carbon or nylon/delrin bolts are lighter than alloy.

J & L alu bolts are lighter, 0.6g
Carbon bolts are even lighter, ~0.4g

Are nylon/plastic bolts strong enough for use with a full 610ml bottle or are they only really suitable for blanking unused bolt holes?

J&L is torx? Are these they? Did I get lucky and find a hex version?

Are these light bolts strong enough? I saw some reviews for the wolf tooth bolts that said htey strip extremely easily when installing and get stuck in the frame

Did you make a typo? I can't seem to find any J&L bolts that are torx, they all seem to hex. Maybe it has changed since you last bought them?

I tried to use hex at first but almost ripped off the thread. Then I realized it's torx

Maybe just my version or maybe they were too soft for hex. At this point I'm not 100% sure

I've used alloy water bottle bolts and/or carbon exclusively for over 20 years. Only problem has been with the local bike shop mechanics who are used to over torquing bolts. Do it yourself or at least make sure and warn them if they are going to touch. No problem whatsoever in performance or with good mechanics.

No experience with the Wolftooth ones, but currently waiting to hear how much this new option from down in Australia come in at. If anything, they sure are the best looking bolts around.

That’s titanium. They could optimise with smaller heads. Here they are “big” (mean as per normal iso norms...) J&l offers thinner heads... but that’s only m5...

Thanks 10cad, never heard of them but nice work.

Does it matter? And I say that as someone who's done some silly sh*t to save weight on bikes. Just curious what the chances are that the combined 1g from all 4 cage bolts will be what keeps you from the weight goal.

With that out of the way, s-works cage bolts are light, reliable and attractive.
