S-Works Tarmac Disc 2020
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi all,
Bearing in mind the plethora of integrated bikes coming out this year, do we think an update to the Tarmac is due?
I'm really on the fence about buying one, especially now I've seen that Scott Addict.
I wonder whether Spesh could simply bring out an integrated bar to match the existing model...
Thoughts?

If we assume a continuation of a staggered 3-year cycle (all-rounder, aero, endurance,) then the Tarmac could come next July. However brands could add a 4th category to the stagger like gravel bikes in order to amortize the R&D costs over a longer period.
It is unlikely. The only part its lacking compared to these new bikes is h integrated cockpit (and therefore the integrated front disc cable). Given the frame is probably still the most aero out of the new gen all rounder, it is still one of the best and the frame weight is lighter than the Scott too.

Probably would have seen the Tarmac at the Tour de Suisse if there was one... next will be the new Shiv TT
I did wonder that, didn't they release a Shiv recently? Or was that tri specific?ParisCarbon wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:55 amProbably would have seen the Tarmac at the Tour de Suisse if there was one... next will be the new Shiv TT

The new TT Shiv was first seen in the last Giro.
i think (and hope) we won't see a new Tarmac before 2021 or even '22.
Sl5 (wich was a minor upgrade from sl4) was first seen in 2014 and sl6 was first seen in dauphiné 2018.

Agree-I think the rim brake SL6 was available in the summer of 2017 with the disc delayed until the spring of 2018. I got my rim version early in 2018 only to kick myself when the disc version was released a few months later. Rim version is still awesome and built into a really light bike.Miles253 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 10:16 pmSl6 was before last year...Surely?Swannie wrote:i think (and hope) we won't see a new Tarmac before 2021 or even '22.

Will be interested to see where Spesh goes with the next version-bar integration like the Venge and new SuperSix Evo seems inevitable, but curious to see how it differentiates itself from the Venge.
Not sure if they are 2020 models, but there are new versions of the Tarmac Pro disc and Venge Pro with SRAM Force AXS that are in a nice colorway if you like blue/teal. Saw the Tarmac version at my LBS and it's beautiful, IMO.
The sl6 was available to buy around October 2017. It was announced around the Tour that year. Usually bike will last at least 3 full calendar year so the earliest we might see will be Tour 2020 which I doubt it. Remember the Canyon Ultimate is now running in its full 4 years now (and the aeroad full 5 years). So not every brand release new bike at precise interval unlike Shimano which release their groupset at exact time interval.
Aside from the lack of front end integration (which is a good thing imo on the rim version, the disc version could use front brake cable hiding), the sl6 is still as good if not ahead of some of the newly releases bike. Definitely ahead of the new SuperSix in terms of weight, aesthetic, and arguably equal in terms of aerodynamic.
