Is it true that Colnago stack height is so high (in my size 54s it is 578mm, while equivalent Ultimate in size M is 567mm and Bianchi Oltre size 57 is just 556mm? Or they measure differently, for example include headset top cap..?
First WW post, so be gentle. I'm an older guy (67) with a solid riding and racing background who rides mostly metal bikes (lugged steel, titanium, et al.). I recently decided to indulge my curiosity about a disc brake pro bike, so with the help of a few extra spacers to accomodate my approx. 7 cm drop I bought this V3 RS. The first 400 km were in Spain in the Cordoba and Ronda areas, about 2 months ago. Size is 54S; as shown, the saddle ht. is 77 cm. Kit is Dura Ace, LW Wegweisers with 28 mm Specialized Turbo Cottons. I'm certainly not much of a WW, but the weight is 7.3 kg as shown, minus pedals. For me, that's light, and one could take, what, a couple hundred grams or more off with tubulars.
The ride is stellar; descending is amazingly smooth and composed, but when you're in a switchback even with an aggressive entry speed you can put the bike pretty much anywhere you like on the road--very fast turn in but not herky-jerky. I love my older school bikes by Richard Sachs, David Kirk, et al., but this is a real treat to ride.
Very nice bike and those wheels make it look 2 times nicer!
A 54S is the equivalent of a 58cm bike so you need to compare with larger bikes.
Welcome timmybike!
I am in the market for a new bike/frame set and this on the short list. Anyone else with first hand experience on this bike? Colnago geometry works great for me as I currently still have a C50 and also had at one point a C59. I am looking for an aero race bike and this is on the short list (also looking at BMC and S-Works Venge). I like the idea of traditional Colnago ride comfort along with some aero gains.
Anyone try the V3? Apparently ~200 grams heavier on the frame. The Ultegra DI2 build is quite attractive and not much more expensive than the V3RS frameset alone. I am very tempted at that price point to jump in...
Anyt thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
