What is everyones opinion and experience with carbon screws? I used a Schmolke carbon screw for my headset top cap, long story short I stripped it and it was very difficult to get out. Any tips on use? Should they be avoided? Thanks for any info.

Don't know about carbon but you can try nylon screws. Nylon is actually a pretty strong material and much less brittle than carbon.

Should be ok for a topcap but I wouldn’t use it to get bearing preload except on the road if for some reason you really had to.

Set tension with a steel bolt, tighten stem bolts, and then replace with carbon/nylon to save a few grams
