Di2 6870 front deraillier trim function help?!

Hi folks,

I decided to set up my ultegra 6870. I followed the manual, and some various videos to sort what i was doing. Not so bad, even if i am slow. I feel setting the rear trip takes a bit of experience, but four clicks right from kaki g the chain rub on the left seems to work.

Anyway... for the front i set the derailer parallel to the big chain (using a seat tube clamp adjustment as the set screw seems stuck!!). The height is spot on. the upper and lower limits are now spot on.

But f$&k me if i can not get the system to go into trim mode for the front. Hold down the button until the led goes red... use the left shifter. Nothing. Striked me it worked yesterday before i fiddled with the FD alignment.

Google, people link others to the manual, and to the pc software to do it digitally. Firmware uptodate. Connection check is fine. Fd is fine including trimming. Hell, fd to chain spacing looks good in the big ring to big ring setup... and when i start the digital front trim... it counts me down “spin the crank” and then it errors me out. Wtf? Should i not spin before the countdown finishes?

I just cant get into the front trim setting.

What am i missing? Is the answer in my apparently frozen derailier alignment screw (the one to line up the derailer with the big chain).

Thanks for any help.

Oh yeah, and i was in the big/big cogs when entering the front trim mode both via software and via the bar terminal.

Thanks. I had previously found that video, followed along (he talks fast), and still no luck. The buttons to trim the front do nothing.

My support bolt is the one that will not budge... but position is good.

You need to get your gear in big-big combination (big chainring, largest sprocket) enter adjustment mode and you should be able to adjust FD trimming.

Yeah, i tried that a few times using both the on bike system, and via the software. Error via software, and nothing budged using the bike terminal.

First time i tried it, the front derailier just stopped working. Of course, the battery was low. So i charged it overnight... and the FD worked fine, but still no go for electronic trim.

Any thoughts?

So i sorted it out.

When i adjusted my system, i adjusted everything except the rear derailier high and low screws. I did everything else by the book. But, when i was done, my rear deraillier liked to self adjust after 5 or so seconds, and push the chain to the second largest cog. So I tweaked the low limit screw on the rear (it was not touchig the cam, presumably due to all the other changes i made).

So when i went back to try and use electronic trim on the front derailier in big/big ring combo... presto... it all worked. I read somewhere that if things are on the edge of adjustment, the sustem will prevent changes to protect itself. Maybe my tweaks fixed that. Either way, the FD was maxed out inboard anyway, and in perfect position.

So all is well and shifting is buttery smooth. No more hesitation shifting from the 7th to 8th cog in the back.

Lesrning to tweak my etap is next. It dislikes shifting to the big ring unless you are at least half way down the casette. And eyeballing it, the FD is way to high!
