I've had a lot of experience with IT band pain and the most consistent remedy is time off the time and sports massage. A foam roller is great for preventative work but if you're experiencing significant pain, then the damage has been done. I've found that a few sessions of a sports massage specifically working the legs can work miracles. Secondly, it helps to address the source of the pain as well. From my understanding, IT band pain can be associated with overuse of the quads. I've had good luck with learning how to reengage the glutes and hamstrings to create a more balanced pedal stroke.
