Any real world experience with Sram AXS?

Next week I’ll meet LBS for the final decision on what groupset for my new bike (BMC TimeMachine Road01). I already ordered the AXS but having lots of second thoughts (mainly due to the ugliness of the hoods) and debating between DA9170 and AXS.

The AXS has in theory a greater great range (I expect to have the same feeling when I went from 11-30 to 11-32), as I do lots of climbing on the Swiss alps having an extra gear (33-33 vs 34-32) should allow for higher cadence climbs. Another point for aXS is that I already have etap and HRD, having all replacing parts (hoses, pads, olives, etc)

DA9170 on the other hand has a slim looking RD and hoods, but lots of cables.

As AXS is freshly out, did anyone got a chance to ride it, and actual impression after couple of rides and not marketing materials I find everywhere?

I belive although the top of the hoods are quite big and ugly the part you hold is slimmer thas what I've been told may not be true

Ergo on hoods is nice and slim to my mind. Don’t notice any difference bt it and regular Shimano mech hoods.

eTap HRD hoods are the best hoods I’ve ever handled ergonomically, and they create a nice flat extension to the bars at the ramps without having to be angled down. I wear sm/md sized gloves.

I am referring to AXS disc, which have a completely different hood design, same as etap HRD, but no chance you can say there is no difference...

Ok, that’s new and somehow expected. How is the speed change? Someone here trolled the RD as being very very slow and loud.

What gear combo did you use on DA9170 and what do you have on AXS. If 46-33/10-33 any feedback would be highly appreciated.

The eTap RD motor is quieter than Di2 to my ears. The FD is louder though. Shifting speed is fast enough for me. If you need to rifle through your cassette, just click really fast rather than holding down the paddle. It's faster.

Tested AXS for a day, 4-hour ride over rolling and hilly terrain in Boulder.

Ergos are nice. Hoods are bigger than what I'm used to (Ultegra 8000 Di2 Hydro), but comfortable in different hand positions.

Drivetrain is silent and shifts similar to my own Ultegra Di2. Gear range is hard to assess, because I often descended faster than the biggest gear would allow to pedal at and felt that I had a low enough gear to climb Flagstaff at my 180lb weight on tired legs.

Shift speed isn't different than Ultegra. Interface is simply different. Not better, not worse. I liked it.

Hydro braking definitely inferior to my Ultegra. Not as much feel or power, modulation. More noise.

The big question for me: would losing wires and a handful of grams be worth the extra $2.8K that this costs over UDi2? To me, the answer is a resounding no. Other than the different interface, it's indistinguishable from a shifting perspective and worse from a braking perspective.

How does the 46-33/10-33 feel compared to 50-34/11-32, is any noticeable difference when in 33-33 compared to 34-32? Did you have a chance to try it?
This is the main reason I am considering axs, to make life easier when climbing...
