clear coat scratches

You guys who tend to go nuts when you have scratches in the clear coat. Like 1mm deep, do you polish or do you sand and polish?

Polish with a good polish.

To remove the scratch, you've going to have to sand/polish the surrounding clear coat down to the depth of the scratch. You'll be removing a lot more clear coat than the tiny bit that was removed by the scratch. I'd leave it until you have a lot of scratches or other imperfections and then do a re-spray.

My top tube is black, so scratches show up pretty easily. I hit it with some Meguiar's polishing compound the other day and it's scratch free again.

Edit - as mentioned, deep scratches require more work, possibly wet sanding. But for minor scratches and swirls from cleaning/wiping down, regular polishing compound works great.

a dab of toothpaste on a damp microfiber cloth
if that doesn't work, and its really annoying me, then wet sanding with 1200-1500
then a schedule of meguiar's compound > polish > swirl remover

1mm is deep, maybe you're overestimating it, if not maybe don't try and remove the scratch completely (that's a lot of clear coat to remove/sand) but smooth/round the edges so it doesn't catch the light as much and is less apparent.
