Some years ago when i asked about Extralite chainrings, the dealer told me, they're not for you. You'd only complain.
"They work" for light riders and climbing was the answer.

When i told the dealer of my preferences, i told him. Shifting prio one, weight prio two.
I have zero tolerance for bad shifting. Then he told me, well, i assume or atleast can't warrant you'd be happy with Extralite.
We discussed a bit more and he told me, Extralite is not for you.

I am for sure in the quality shifting is priority #1 camp. I didn’t go buy a high end drivetrain to make it shift like crap for the sake of 30-40g.
I am sick, but not that sick. Praxis will be on my radar when it comes time to refresh my chainrings (which will be a while as my etap is pretty new).

When people say "bad front shifting" I feel like they just mean that you need to let off the power and wait for a second. Everyone's gotten so used to perfect modern shifting that they don't want to back off for a revolution. I still shift like I'm riding a late 90s bike and all my shifts are smooth, silent, and quick enough to not bother me but I think that's due to what I'm doing with my feet, hand, and how I set up the derailleur.

That is part of my point. Is it worth saving 20-40g to make a top end modern groupset shift like it was 1990 again?
I am not saying that a hammerfest when shifting is a good practice, but why take a step back? Any marginal gains in lower weight will be far outweighed by power lost in slower shifting.

1) Situations where I've had it both drop inside and outside the rings.
2) Slow/clunky shifting resulting in me looking down to see if my chain was still on.
3) Low enough confidence that I either cross-chain to avoid shifting or back enough off the power to look down and make sure I don't drop.
This is not an issue for the original SRAM chainrings or the new Praxis I just installed.
I have three bikes with eTap, two 2x, and one 1x. The only combination that gives me any shifting issues is 2x with Extralite Octaramp rings.

Skip those Extralite chainrings! I wouldn't venture shifting for that weight difference.

A 5g chain catcher resulted no more chain drop and acceptable front derailleur shifting

I wouldn't dare use a THM crank with those chainrings! Hell, i wouldn't dare use THM with any chainrings. Even if i am satisfied with my Etap setup, i can't swear the chain won't jump. I can just imagine the chain biting down in the THM crank

I had a chaincatcher installed. Made me confident that I wouldn't drop to the inside. No matter how I had it set up, it would still drop to the outside.PrinceEdward wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:46 pmA 5g chain catcher resulted no more chain drop and acceptable front derailleur shifting

I gave up, installed Praxis rings, no more issues.
I"ll be trying extralite with THM cranks... just ordered a gold Omni chain catcher ( I have a gold chain and gold chainring bolts).. my crank arms will be taped up for protection as I fine tune the Di2. Shit can happen.. my chain bit down pretty hard on my DA cranks before .. so yeah I worry a little.wheelsONfire wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 5:31 pmI wouldn't dare use a THM crank with those chainrings! Wish I had a chain catcher. Look at the damage to my frame caused by multable chain drop. Once repaired I'll use one and probably tape the THM crank arm. Already scratched a little though. Extralite are light and do look good, but I think this could have been avoided by using the Praxis rings.
