Light rings + etap = crap shifting?
Moderator: robbosmans
Extralites work 95% in mechanical setups. In electronic setups they are not worth it unless you can adjust all aspects of the fd movement which we can't.
If there were a way to add titanium/steel pickup pins to the extralite rings they would probably work much better.
Extralite please add titanium pins!

My pain was appeared while tuning the FD, beware the limited screw which may get very very close to the crank arms if you didn't properly tune it ..... resulted in a technical tutorial mark....

Oh, to much dust and rust on the Etap FD linkage
That's exactly what i mean with Extralite and Etap. Etap have it's difficulties, and you make it worse by using Extralite.
I just don't understand how you can. There is no chance i would go there.

Why would anyone shift under power. Stupid thing to do. I am being blunt now. I have plenty of modern and old groupset and never change rings under power. It good practice. It prevents chain drops. If the chain snags (it can in some circumstances) then your rd does not get ripped off.
If you want to change under power I have the drivetrain for you - Roloff speed master.

Many do just that!
That's why i guess some have issues with Etap, part from the need of tuning that doesn't seem to work out for them.
Btw (shifting under power),I wonder if CX racer doesn't do it more or less all the time!?

I know I'm not eTap... but damn the shifting with extralite and DA9170 has been so butter.. I'm not worried at all.

OK, for the record:
1) There's an entire thread dedicated to issues with front shifting of eTap. It's a known issue. Even Tobin himself admits that there's a magical setting that you have to happen upon to eliminate chain throws or drops. I've had 3 eTap groups and have had the same problem with all of them.
2) There's an entire thread already dedicated to Extralite rings. The verdict is that they don't shift well, particularly with electronic groups.
3) MKV shift very well. Immediate takeup with 9150, 9100 and Campy. Can't say the same for the TA rings I'm using or even the Praxis rings. Praxis is fine with 9150 and very good with EPS. TA just sucks.
Now, with the above in mind, if you marry #1 and #2, what do you think the outcome is going to be?
