What problem are you looking to improve?
Narrower chains have previously been compatible as long as the inner width stayed the same. It's possible that a narrower inner width is ok with certain chainrings/cassettes/pulley wheels but not all.
Also you need to be careful about not letting the chain fit between the chainrings = safety issue.
With sram there is some conflicting info. It's said their new 12s chains aren't like the old ones but KMC is claiming their chains to be compatible with all brands (if I remember correctly). Someone must be mistaken. It deserves more looking into before buying.

Has anyone tried this? I am asking because I want to test a PM on my MTB on a trainer, compare it against the trainer, but I don't have XD driver for the trainer. There is no other way how I could compare a MTB PM to the PM on my road bike.
Technically all I need is that some of the gears in the middle of the cassette fits the chain and I can use ERG mode for the test without any shifting.

JayDee81: Yes, this works. Tested my MTB w/Eagle drivetrain on trainer with 11spd Shimano road cassette.
Other option is to buy 12spd NX/SX/Sunringle-cassette for shimano freehub.

Thanks. That's exactly my case.DanielNorway wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 2:03 pmJayDee81: Yes, this works. Tested my MTB w/Eagle drivetrain on trainer with 11spd Shimano road cassette.
