Could you give more detail on the stem crushing your bars? Like how much torque you used and which torque wrench, and why you were riding st the time. That sounds quite concerning for owners of either that stem or those bars.

The sad truth is that bars are more likely to be crushed by lightweight stems.

The reason being that light stems often have less clamping surface area which means that the pressure for a given bolt torque will be higher on average.

3Nm might sound like nothing but if you narrow the area low enough it'll be enough to damage any bar. So I think the torque value is relative depending on the combination used. One combination could be ok up to 10Nm and another merely 5Nm. The rider won't know until it's too late. I've found that best is to not use stems with small contact areas, or use integrated stem/bar combos.

While I can agree with this, the hyperstem’s clamping parts (the c-shaped bits that come off when you remove the bolts) have quite a decent surface area in contact with the bar. More than some non-weenie stems that recommend 5Nm

Merlin (excellent on line) is selling the 3T Ernova Team Stealth Carbon right now for $127. At 195g (size 42) that's a very good price to weight weenie deal.

The link for chain reaction earlier in the thread is for the same handlebar a fair bit cheaper, even thou he’s listed it as another handlebar
