Hi all, can anybody tell me if Shimano Dura Ace di 9000 crankset can be swopped with the Dura Ace 9100 di2 crankset . The only difference i can see is that the 9100 crankset has its inner ring 0.04mm closer to the centerline of the frame . Not sure if this will affect the di2 changing. Some advice please.

I wouldn't worry about the swap, but I don't know what kind of riding you do or if you have patience or knowhow to do some testing and adjustments.

The 9000 cranks are quite valuable. Seems people like the look. You should be able to recover a lot of the money spent for it.

I did this last year, no issues. Running 9070 FD also.

Shimano has been claiming FC-R9100 are not compatible with FD-9050 but FC-9000 are fine with both FD-9070/FD-R9150.

Thanks for the info. re. Shimano Dura Ace di2 9000-9100 chainset compatibility. I can now go ahead and purchase 9100 chainset. By the way i have had no issues with the Dura Ace 9000 chainset but due to the onset of an arthritic hip i have decided to go from 170mm to 165mm cranks in the hope it will help to ease my discomfort and 9100 cranks are easier to get hold of. Once again thanks for the information provided.

I have two bikes both have 9100 cranks. I bought these for the PM. Have two of them.

One use 9000 mechanical FD
The second uses 9070 di2 FD

Both work perfectly fine.

I had a bike with a full 9070 Di2 drivetrain and 9000 cranks, and I put on a 9100 crankset and never touched anything. Zero adjustments required.

Same here. Didn’t touch a thing and it’s been perfect. Same for the mechanical bike.

Hi all, purchased and fitted my new Shimano Dura Ace 9100 compact chainset. Works a dream. However i have another question! I bought the compact version 50-34 as at my age i dont have the power to push with a 53t outer ring for any length of time but can spin happily with a 50t outer but the 34t inner just seems a tad too small for every day use. Great for climbing but not so good for undulating terrain. I feel that changing the inner ring from a 34t to a 36t might just be what i need. So can anybody tell me if it is feasable to swap the 34 for a 36 on Shimano Dura Ace di2 chainset. I have heard that the chainsets are a matched pair ie 50-34 and 52-36 and not interchangeable according to Shimano even though they have the same bcd. Interested to hear any weight weenies take on this.

Oops . Should read --- push with a 52t outer ring not 53t. Cheers.

There is no problem, the ramps are just optimized to shift between the two specific rings they were designed for, so in theory they might not shift as "smooth." IME you won't notice a thing when decreasing the difference of teeth between the two.

When you go the other way (increasing the difference beyond their suggested tolerance), things can get slightly more noticeable, but guys like Bardet and Sagan have been seen running wacky setups like 53/36 and supposedly Contador ran 53/34 at one point so even then it's still doable.
